Child
{Janos
Audron}
It was spring now and the snow was melting, the ground was damp
constantly but the air was crisp and starting to warm. It was one of the best
seasons to be in the air; the winds were strong but did not pummel you from the
sky. Yet Janos found himself not enjoying the change as he usually did, instead
he was perched on one of the craggy cliff sides watching the two on the ground
bellow.
Vorador was teaching his newly adopted fledgling about the dangers of
the landscape. It was difficult to believe that this was the same creature that
he had raised. Vorador seemed to have changed so much since the early days; he
had stopped being the young and rather naïve fledgling into something much more
cynical and prone to rash action.
He had memories of Vorador, memories of simple questions with easy
answers and devotion that had eased his loneliness in a time when all else had
left him. His god had turned from him; his people had slowly started to leave
him, one by one and his faith had wavered. But Vorador had held strong, he had
remained and even after all these years he was still here.
But now he had started to wonder. In the last few months Vorador’s
attention to him had begun to fade, no longer did he follow his sire all over
the aerie; in fact he was spending more and more time away from the aerie.
Janos had wondered, he had been curious and with little else to draw his attention,
his fledgling had easy started to cause him worry.
He had given in to his curiosity in the second week and had followed his
child. He had found Vorador visiting the village. He had not been truly
surprised that Vorador had taken the shine to the village, it had been a
difficult change for a man that had once been so sociable to suddenly be
confined to an aerie with only one other for company, so no Janos had not been
surprised to find Vorador wondering the village streets. He had however been surprised
when Vorador had come home sobbing and screaming for help with a corps in his
arms.
But now watching them together it seemed inevitable that this would
happen. It was natural that Vorador would yearn for more company like theirs.
But still he found himself feeling saddened. It was pathetic really, perched up
here watching them, he felt like a spoiled child losing his best friend, yet
his loss as more profound than that. But it was one that he should have been
prepared for.
With a deep sigh he opened his wings and dropped off the Cliffside, into
the air.
End fic.
