Light

Disclaimer: I am not the proud owner of Hellsing, despite how much I would like it to be otherwise.

The office was dim, lighted only by a single lamp sat on the desk; it illuminated the sole occupant of the room.

The small child sat with her arms wrapped around her legs, clutching them to herself, her chin resting on her knees. Sir Integra Wingates Hellsing. She’d been sat there now for nearly two days while she slowly let what happened sink in. The events of the last few days had left her shaken to say the least.

Walter had returned to find her in this position, he instantly made sure she wasn’t hurt or ill and was slowly beginning to get her speaking. Her arm throbbed, the bandage Walter had wrapped done to tightly.

Her mind was spinning, replaying what had occurred earlier that day over and over and over until it all blurred together into one continuous event. She had tried to tell Walter what had happened but the words had dried up and died before making their way out of her mouth.

He had gone to make tea hoping to relax her some.

Speak of the devil; she looked up to find the door opening as Walter remerged into the room. He quietly laid the tray down. Integra closed her eyes tightly for a moment and tried to organize her thoughts in a way that if made verbal they would be coherent.

To start with she had just mumbled something, he caught the words “uncle” “vampire” and “dead”

To say he wasn’t surprised was an understatement; Walter distrusted Integra’s uncle and had been known to vocalize his mistrust more than once. Integra had refused to believe this, her uncle was her uncle he cared about her, her welfare, the welfare of the organization. Now she knew he cared only about his ambition.

Betrayed by her uncle, hunted in her own home as if she were one of the scum Hellsing hunted. She shivered visibly and the blanket Walter had placed over her shoulders fell down.

“Are you feeling any better” Walter set the tea in front of her she nodded slightly “would you like to tell me what happened”

“I feel awfully silly” she managed to mutter, inside she felt like she was over reacting although she knew many would have crumbled where she had stood firm.

“Nonsense Sir Integra” Walter smiled, a soft fatherly smile that made Integra want to weep “just take your time and tell me slowly what happened”

a few different scenarios ran through Walter’s mind, Richard could have just left but then why was the child so shaken, maybe Richard had tried to put his plans for dominance of the Hellsing organization in motion, but hadn’t Integra muttered something about a vampire? Maybe they had been attacked. Richard was no were to be found and Walter assumed he had run or had died.

“Uncle Richard lost his soul” Integra whispered then coughed and found her voice more solidly “he . . . he was obsessed, he came at me with a gun I had to run”

so Richard had attempted to put his plans in motion . . . .where was he now?

“I hid myself in the air vents, made my way to the lower levels but . . .” she stopped and sipped the cup she held in her shaking hand “monster”

Walter’s mind raced like fire along a paraffin trail. Lower levels . . . the abandoned lower levels, it all clicked into place in his mind.
