LANCASHIRE-ENGLISH MINI DICTIONARY

Broad Lancashire as its spoken.
We who live in Lankyshire (As its spoken around here) have never questioned how we speak to each other. However, for all you out in the rest of the world weve complied a directory just in case you want to place a native Lancashire character in your story or even 'heaven forbid' that you might just want to visit the area.

So after a quick scan of this page youll have the understanding when we talk to you in broad Lancashire. Based broadly on missed the words, such as dropping of the letter 'h' at the beginnings of words (orse, orrible) and then the adding of it to emphasise certain words beginning with a vowel (on this hauspicious hoccasion) is just the start. The letter 'a' in words is often changed to 'e' or 'o' (mek yur bed, tek this t'im). For extra emphasis on double o words we tend to make them into quadruples (looook at t'booook). And the letter 'g' is often missed at the end of words (livin oer t'brush).

The 'Lankyshire twang' differs greatly over the many boroughs but here is a mini dictionary with some of the most common words used.
