Meet our Youth Teacher Volunteers

Calling all young people aged 15 to 24 years to become Youth Teacher Volunteers and change the lot for young people globally                                                                                                                                This programme aims at training and networking youth globally through life skills methods. These youngsters called Youth Teacher Volunteers would act as messengers of social change in the lifestyles of youth in and around their areas of residence, study or work.  They would learn to protect themselves from HIV, Drugs ,unwanted sexual exposures, exploitation due to gender differences,  poverty etc. as well and pass the messages on. This global distant  learning programme is being conducted primarily through the internet e-forums. It would also conduct  regional or national workshops to further the counselling skills of these YTVs

As a part of a global internet distant learning programme we have started a training in life skills. We have registered names of youth teacher volunteers who would spread the message on from all countries of the world to see the programme is truly global. These are all motivated  individuals who wish to change the scenario of the youth of their country. This aims at selecting youth teacher volunteers from early teens to young adults. The age is open so that more persons can participate and take up training in life skills . All they need to know is read, speak and write English and their local language. Then each of these first tier volunteers are to  recruit 5 more young persons and pass on the same training to them. Then again each of them is to recruit 5 and train them similarly and thus the cycle of knowledge goes on. We have received responses from a large number of countries .See the country list for further details. Mexico, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka,  Philippines, Indonesia , Thailand, Georgia, Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda , Canada, USA and Australia have already registered. Many other countries have shown interest .

SOHGAPH HOME

How does this help the volunteers?

We are arranging for a free training and will be sending in materials by e-mails or as attachments. This would help them to gain knowledge about there body and mind and will develop them into better human beings. By meeting among themselves once a month,( may be in the later stages when we can give funding) they produce the sense of camaraderie. It has been seen that those who enter this programme can protect themselves from drug addiction, unsafe sexual exposures or exploitation, build a strong personality, develop leadership qualities, understand life's goals better. We will be sending in material which I am sure is very convincing. Motivation to learn and do something like this is usually the driving force behind success. So before registering anyone for this programme we will do a simple check to test their level of motivation.

We do not promise anything but if funding is available in the future we may think of more interesting activities. There would be meets and workshops to further their skills in their own countries or internationally.  Please send in the names, e-mail addresses, age ,sex, marital status, address, telephone, fax if any, occupation (if none please specify) whether residing in an urban, semi-urban or rural set-up.We need representatives from other countries and more from the countries showing interest

We are forming a panel of experts  for this purpose. each posting will be thoroughly agreed upon by the majority of the experts before being sent out. If you have been involved in training in life skills and should like to be a member of the experts committee, please send in your short CV as an attachment.

We appeal to funding organizations to come forward and support this initiative for which many young, energetic souls have come forward. Even if part funding for a few countries are available it would help to sustain this very positive initiative.

We are also looking for local /regional NGO/GO  who would be our collaborators and help us host the regional workshops. They would also look over the training for their area Youth Teacher Volunteers and assist them to find out more volunteers or any other problems they may face.If some of these organizations could part fund this project we would be most obliged and so would our YTV.

We invite more and more young people to come forward and join." Take up this challenge and show the world what you can do." They say young minds are elastic and can grasp a lot of information. We believe young bodies are powerful. The power put together can move ...

Messages from some of our YTVs

I am Antara Ferdous from Bangladesh(21 years). A student of Jahangirnagar University.

Hi friends

My subject is "Biochemistry & moleculer Biology". I am 21 years old. I also live in Jahangirnagar University. My father services here as a librarian. Before applying as a volunteer I had no experiences. but I always feel for the helpless, truely for the youth. In Jahangirnagar University in my views, addiction to the drug is the major problem. The environment of this place is
too much beautiful. I think it is the most beautiful place in Bangladesh to live and to read safely. Students live here , read here but they can't lead a beautiful life. Some girls and boys become addicted by getting a free life
style. They sometimes overflow with their free life and free bad relationship and become addicted and boundless. I live very close to them and feel to do something better for these disappointed youth, my friends. According to our Moderators advice I consulted with my friends and five of
them wants to work for this programme (with SOHGAPH) to help our disappointed
friends. We six have noticed the same problem of youth in Jahangirnagar University. My other five friends will let you know about themselves and the reasons of their interest about this programme later.

SHARING MY EXPERIENCE WITH YOU

Life is what you make it. It is very precious. The nice things happen
and the good things too happen but we all have to accept what comes
our way.

I have always wanted to be a successful person in life. I've been
wanting to be someone of importance in society so that I can be able
to help others (especially the underprivileged) so that at the end of
the day suffering is less and possibly done away with.

Satisfaction at the end of it all would be achieved though as human
beings never shall we ever get satisfied but can be contented with
what we have. Meeting my expectations and being a free person is my
ambition.

How to achieve these ambitions needs hard work, focussed minds and a
strategy to achieve them. I have always avoided pretending to be what
am not. Showing a true picture of oneself makes one lead a meaningful
life.

Sincere gratitude goes to my friends, colleagues and more so to my
dear parents for it is their counselling and guidance that have
enabled me to be what I am today.

At the end of the imagination, I can use what I have to make better
this world to live in - so that less suffering is seen if not
completely done away with. This I guess will make me a better person
in life and be able to help those in need.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Melinda Shaw. I am from
Australia but currently living and
working as a volunteer in Sri Lanka.

I joined this programme as I think it sounds really valuable for young
people in every country. It hopefully deals with the pressure of life and
growing up that every young person experiences (in one way or another)
whether in Australia, Sri Lanka or ANYWHERE. I hope it will make young
people stronger in everyway.

In Sri Lanka (in rural areas at least), the prime problems are lack of
knowledge on issues such as sexuality, drugs and alcohol. Young people in
Sri Lanka often lack resources to entertain themselves. They then turn to
drugs, alcohol and sex for fun (but they dont know how to protect themselves
and dont know the risks). These things are not talked about because they are
not acceptable in this culture. Suicide is a vert big problem. Sri Lanka has
the second highest rate in the world.

Thanks
from Melinda
