CYPRESS MOON An immature lover fell in love
with a Beauty of a singular stance
Whose unique straight limbed perfection drew
the lover out of the beholder's glance.but she pulled out her mirror and busied herself
by seeking to adorn her face
The lover, trying to win her busy hand,
pulled out his handkerchief and proffered it."Foolish lover" she replied
"letting your imagination run with you."
"For know, that it is in my nature
to increase my beauty if its my image you love"And lest you think me vain and proud
Know that MY love is also perfection.
For I can only love that which YOU love,
so I will love my image if its what you seek""If the bright image you see is what you love
you will never know of what I hide.
For though your longing waxes day by day
My brightness does wane night by night.""But those who would sail the sea of love
seek not just my beauty but my hidden strength
for they have learnt that the cypress mast
can hold up to the strongest sail. The mast of my soul adorned with your labor's sail
will be pushed by the Spirit across the Sea.
Yet you offer me a tiny hand kerchief
What imagination, to think that we can be!What use have I for your piece of cloth
save to use as another veil?
For with this veil I see within your 'giving'
lies nothing but a desire to posses"Let me veil her up, and make her mine
Let me show her then as I desire."
But true Love brings to light my hidden face.
Thus I see my image, and know myself."So the lover left, having learnt of himself
that true union lies in the reflections
when beauty shows strength, and strength adorns beauty
Knowledge begets knowing and Love shows love- Faiz Ziaf
