Life Nestling

~THROUGH THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER~
()o()o()o()o

Ever wonder why certain sights
capture your imagination more than others ?
Why they hold and thug at your heart
as if part of you are enmeshed
in them ?

If you have the same experience,
then maybe you will find whatever I am
about to say meaningful. I believe many
people do experience this, but I have yet
to find anything written about
this phenomena

Let me be more specific
with some examples

When I was a young man...
Nay, when I was a small boy, the sight
of the puddle of water created by the pouring
rain as they tumble from the zinc roof top
to the drain held such an impelling effect
that I could sit for long moments
just watching the endless
ripples...

( ( ( ( ( . ) ) ) ) )

By the way, that was at my Grand
parent's house. We had zinc roofs then.

Now
imagine a country road
cutting through some foliage.
In itself, that setting is alright but ..if you
just add a bent, such that the road
disappears at the bent, then you
have another example of a
captivating sight

How many times in your life
have you seen the rain from your window ?
For me, I must admit to being too busy now
with so many other distractions that I have
missed out on this favorite past time.
But there was a time when
I could just sit back
and enjoy..

When I was in Taiwan
many years ago, I made a point
to visit the country's Museum. Among
the many and varied exhibits were big Chinese
paintings done in the classical manner.
One particular painting caught
my attention. It was entitled,
"Crossing the bridge
to meet a friend"

That painting
touched me quite deeply
and I wondered whether there was
something at the subliminal level that
connected me to the Painter. And did you
catch the title ? "Crossing the bridge
to meet a friend" was an apt title,
poetic in its own right..

Another example is the
sight of a brown earth road cutting
through trees and bushes leading
to a secluded house by the river

There are more
examples that I could share but I think
the above few give a fair idea, from my
perspective, as to what are
captivating sights..

I guess I will never fully
fathom the mystery of why certain things
are fascinating while others are not and
why they elicit different responses
from different people.

Maybe it is wise
to regard it as one other aspect of
phenomena in a world
of phenomenas

Maybe it has something
to do with your experiences, or your
state of mind...

After all
why do Painters paint when they
have the real thing before them ?
Maybe they are trying to convey
an aspect of it that is not
that evident
