Stephen Maturin
Stephen, or Esteban, Maturin is a character of Patrick O�Brian�s Master and Commander series. He is a well-learned doctor and naturalist who, after becoming friends with Jack Aubrey, applied his knowledge in the service of the Royal Navy. He is Irish and Spanish, father an Irish officer, which may explain his short time with the United Irishmen rebellion against England. He owns a castle in Catalan, is a good card player, an often outwardly apathetic man, though he is often confused and self-rebuking during internal reflection. Stephen is presently acting as a spy for England, which is why his friend and colleague Doctor Haysfield asked for his help in regards to Jean Badeau. Stephen also has a pet duck that he found injured on the way through Devonshire. This character is now played by Nautical Nymph off and on. He is sailing on the HMS Surprise with Captain Aubrey.
