Admiral Sir Edward Pellew
Name: Sir Edward Pellew Gender: Male Rank: Port-Admiral (just promoted from post-captain) Information: Pellew, who was letter known as Lord Exmouth, is an actual historical character from the Age of Sail. He lived from 1775-1833, and in his time managed many a daring feat (one account says he actually did a handstand on a yardarm). He first went to sea when he was thirteen and through displays of courageous personal conduct soon found himself rising through the ranks. Eventually, in 1806, Pellew was given the rank of Commander-in-chief of the East Indies, and took his flag there... For our purposes, Pellew was in the West Indies aboard the Indefatigable with our crew of characters. He served as a Commodore (though the rest of his fleet wasnt seen) and was wounded in battle by a pirate woman who shot him in the stomach. From this point he was out of command and spent most of his time down in the sick-bay with Doctor Thaddeus Clive, who helped him recover. Chances are, if Pellew had been in command during the action with the Spanish, the Indefatigable would have escaped capture- but as it was, Lt. Eccles had complete control of the ship, and it wasnt long before they were in the Spanish gaol at Punto de Oso. Sir Edward, though he was no friend to pirates, generally took a liking to the woman Serena (even if she shot him), and granted her a pardon in hopes that she would turn herself around. This did not happen, and feeling betrayed, Pellew hopes that the woman is brought to justice like so many before her. Currently he has just received the position of port-admiral, and is returning from the West Indies to take up a position somewhere along Englands coast. "Lord Exmouth's humane and magnanimous conduct, when, at the imminent risk of his life, he rescued (under the blessing of Divine Providence) near five hundred souls, men, women and children, many of whom were sick, from the wreck of the 'Dutton' East Indiaman, in a tremendous storm, January 26th 1796". This was written by a spectator who watched Pellew aid the Dutton when she was driven into the Plymouth Sound by a storm. Pellew and his wife had been on their way to dine with the Vicar of Charles when this happened, and Pellew managed to get on board and ensure that the 500 people on board were saved- and in doing so, managed to injure his back. This action greatly attests to his character, as one can see.
