Dagfinn Kittelsen
Name: Dagfinn Kittelsen DOB: November 3, 1769 Age: Currently 36 Gender: Male Position: Master of the Sirena Description and Personality: The most noticeable characteristic of this tall Norwegian master is the mop of silvery hair and whiskers that cover his head. Dagfinns once brown hair has been worn away through hours of stressful contemplation and aggravating discussions with a captain who cant understand a word hes saying. He has a distinct Slavic accent that often interferes with his conversational skills, though many would attribute this to his normal taciturn personality and cold disposition. His eyes never reveal the explosive interior he shelters within. They are brown. Mister Kittelsen stands at an impressive six feet, but its the breadth of his shoulders that commonly keep the men under him in check. He wears a nondescript blue jacket, worn vest and shirt, and a very plain pair of pants in all weather. Dagfinn is very conservative in general, quietly religious, and typically a brooding silence aboard the ship. His proud posture and cheekbones set him apart from the raggle taggle bunch aboard the Sirena, as well as the education that he labored to acquire. To gain the respect of the crew and to offer a symbolic olive branch to the pirates that spared his life, Dagfinn allowed for both of his ears to be pierced and decorated with gold hoops. He despises them. Dagfinn harbors deep grudges against his current captain, a fault that could prove fatal for one of them in the end. He is ultimately the most secretive soul aboard the ship. Mutiny could be on his mind. Information: Dagfinn was born in 1769 to Lydia Killick and Klas Kittelsen, who wed soon after he was born. Klas soon relocated the family from their Dover home to Bergen, Norway in an attempt to end a family dispute between the Killick family and himself- mostly involving his impregnating the young girl without intentions of marriage. The move proved to be just the solution, and after a few years of severed ties, the old wounds healed. Lydia and Klas turned out to be affectionate partners and loving parents. Growing up, Dagfinn did not get to see much of his father who was often away on trading voyages in the East Indies. The young boy had little inclination towards sailing at first, though the long absences of his father soon intrigued his childish curiosity. Ships and sailing soon became a passion- all for the father he wanted to impress (a very successful endeavor). Klas quickly identified his sons talents for math and developed a deeply set pride for the boy. He was soon insisting that Dagfinn be sent back to England for an opportunity in the English navy. This became a source of much disagreement between his parents, but in the end his father won, and at the young age of ten Dagfinn returned to Dover to live with his aunt and uncle. Friendship soon blossomed out of his relationship with his cousin Preserved, their first voyage together being a trying adventure for the two boys- Preserved trying to teach English to young Dagfinn all the while. Both proved to be especially good at sailing, though Dagfinn succeeded his cousin in all things literary and mathematical. It wasnt long before three years of sailing had their effects, the Norwegian child being elevated to midshipman aboard a separate ship (a devastating farewell) and Preserved remaining aboard the other frigate to serve as an able ship hand. Dagfinn soon embraced the independence, and yet again was blessed with promotion to masters mate. The duties and studies involved with the rank came naturally to the young man. Sadly, his lucky streak came to an abrupt halt after the eventual promotion to lieutenant. Dagfinn continued to show surprising potential, but without any land connections in Government or any known relations in the higher naval hierarchy, further advancement seemed impossible. With these revelations in mind, Dagfinn calmly resigned from the navy, returning to Bergen and acquiring a position in the Danish East India Company with his father. Within a year of returning, Dagfinn met and wedded a simple country girl, Nysse Holfeldt. He was eighteen, and though never openly affectionate, it was a true love. Three years later, and after many failed attempts, Nysse gave birth to his son, Asolf. Due to complications, Nysse failed to conceive another child. Over the course of another year, Dagfinn finally secured a position as captain aboard the merchant ship Odin. The runs to India kept him away from his family for long periods of time, but he never ceased to be completely loving towards the two individuals that knew him best. Many letters passed between them over the course of his seven year reign of the seas, but in 1797 they stopped all together. A fateful battle with the pirate ship Sirena left the merchant captain ultimately signing away his name and life to the service of Angelo Torricelli. Its been eight years since. Asolf just turned fourteen.
