| Genres I Listen To: Jazz -Jazz is America's Music and so it's pretty cool to listen to. There's lots of self expression and feeling of the rhythms and beats. Also, unlike what's commonly thought, jazz has very strict rules and patterns and is really difficult to play. Disney -Disney isn't technically a genre, but it is in my world because I listen to a ton of Disney music. In my life I've kind of been forced to grow up really fast, so I've never gotten over my love of Disney music. Disney music is for the most part up beat and positive, plus has great melodies and songs you can sing absolutely anywhere! Punk -Punk is classic teen angst music and that's exactly why I like it. When I'm listening to punk, I can listen to songs about death and dying and feel perfectly good. In fact, in the realm of pop-punk, Good Charlotte's 'The Day that I Die' is probably among my most favorite songs. Classical -Classical is amazing because it takes you on such an adventure. Also, all of the instruments blended together not only sound amazing, but incredibly spiritual depending on the music you're playing. Cultural -Cultural music is very unique because it comes from different cultures. By listening to a culture's music you can hear what types of materials they had avalible to them for many years, what they like to dance to, etc. I like a lot of cultural music, but Hebrew, Jazz, Native American, and Russian are my favorites and the types I listen to most often. Marching Music -Okay, so this category is mainly rock music, but it's still it's own genre in my mind and in the band library, so ha! What I like the most about marching music is that you can get so into it, it's fun to dance to, and when ever I'm hearing music from pep band or marching band or something, like cadences or whatever, I can't help but to grin. It's awesome. Rock -Rock is pretty cool because it tends to have a good beat, you can sing along, and that type of stuff. However... because my parents listen to rock and always have, I prefer jazz; it's my way of rebelling against them. Christian -I'm not fond of Christianity's roll in America right now, nor all of the people that call themselves Christians (I myself don't), or any of that stuff. Still, Christian music is positive, fun to listen to, and most of it sends what I call a good message. I listen to it, but not becuase I'm pleased with the people or the religion; I like it, that's all there is to it. |
