I'm one of the original members of this fantastic group. I hosted the first LIFE group fund raising event for The Susan G Komen Foundation in 2000. The crab feast was a great success and fun was had by all into the wee hours of the night.

I have supported the Komen foundation for many years as I saw firsthand what it was doing to help women through my work as an oncology nurse. Then, on April 1, 1997 I got a phone call that changed my life. I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

With all that I knew of this dreadful disease and all I had experienced with the hundreds of women who were struggling with it, I was absolutely terrified. I kept waiting for that second phone call - APRIL FOOLS!

I valiantly struggled through the surgery, chemo, and radiation treatments and I truly feel blessed to be here to tell you all about it. Me and my bald self attended my first Race for the Cure that year and it was awesome. My spirits were raised and my determination to beat breast cancer solidified in the warmth and sisterhood of all of my sister survivors.

So.... come on out my LIFE sisters, and join me in the 2001 MD Race For the Cure. It's great fun and a truly spiritual experience.

I will be organizing a meeting place and planning some "after race" activities in beautiful downtown Baltimore. I also hope to see you all at the big 1st Anniversary LIFE group party in September. We will be raising spirits and funds and probably a few eyebrows too!
