~*~ Chapter 9 ~*~

NEW YORK CITY, NY – KIRSTIN’S LOFT – JAN. 25TH, 2002 – Friday

It was 10 pm when Kirstin heard her phone ring.

“Hello?” she said, lying on the sofa, watching TV.

     “Hey, girl, How are you?”

“Hey, Ash.” Kirstin didn’t sound too happy this time.

     “What’s up?”

     “Nothing much. Watching TV. You?”

     “Still stuck at the studio.”

“Right.” Kirstin turned the TV volume down a bit.

“What have you done today?” Ashley asked.

“Nothing out of ordinary. What about you?”

“The same. Been here all day long.”

     “Ok.”

“So…” Ashley wanted to ask her how things were at Inferno the other night, but he was a little afraid of Kirstin’s reaction. Would she think he didn’t trust her? “How were… how were things last night?”

“Ok.” Kirstin said with no enthusiasm.

“Ok? Just ok? Come on! Girls night out! Something exciting must have happened!” Ashley was trying to get something out of her. She was just toocalm. Was she hiding something?

“Nothing exciting. Just got to think about a lot of things.”

     “Like?”

“I don’t know. Like… how different I am now from when we used to go there every week.”

     “You think you’re too different?”

“Yes, I know I am. Totally.”

“But did you like to go out?”

“I don’t know. It brought back too many memories.”

     “Bad memories?”

“No. Some were, some weren’t. I was happy those times I used to go there every week.”

“What does that mean? You’re not happy now?” Ashley was starting to get worried.

“No, it’s not that. I love what we have, but… I don’t know. I didn’t worry too much about how things were back then.”

     “You worry about things now?”

     “Some things, yes.”

     “Like what?”

“I don’t know. I just do.” Kirstin didn’t wanna talk about her worries now, especially over the phone.

“Ok.” Ashley picked up on that. She didn’t wanna talk about it “But other then your thoughts, everything went ok?”

     “Yes.”

“Good. Listen, I wanna say I’m really sorry I couldn’t drop by tonight. But I am dropping by tomorrow. And…” Ashley had something to say that it wasn’t gonna be good for Kirstin to listen, but he had to do it anyway “We’re leaving tomorrow night.”

“Oh…” somehow Kirstin knew it wasn’t gonna last too long.

“Yeah…” Ashley wasn’t getting Kirstin that day. She was too weird “But I promise I’ll get back here soon. We have a doctor’s appointment to go to, anyway. So I will be back soon.”

     “I know. All right.”

     “How’s your stomach?”

“It hasn’t hurt since my fight with Grace.”

“Good. It’s been a while then, huh?”

“Yes. I’m glad it’s gone. For now, anyway.”

“Must have been my magic kiss that day.” Ashley joked about that.

“Yeah, it must have.” Kirstin grinned.

“Listen, K, I gotta go.” there was the female voice again “But I’ll drop by tomorrow, probably during the afternoon. But I’ll call you first, alright?”

     “Ok. I’ll be waiting then.”

     “Ok. See you.”

“I love you.” Kirstin quickly said.

“Yeah, me too. Bye.” Ashley hushed and turned it down.

Kirstin turned off the phone and looked at it. Something was definitely wrong.
