~*~ Chapter 37 ~*~

NEW YORK CITY, NY – MTV – JAN. 15TH, 2001

Kirstin kept staring at her wristwatch. She had to meet Ashley at the store by 5 p.m. It was now 4:15.

“K, what’s wrong?” Andrew, her boss, asked worried.

     “Oh, nothing.” Kirstin smiled weakly.

“It’s your fitting you’re worried about, right?” Andrew smiled at her kindly.

“Yeah…” Kirstin went with that. That wasn’t the real reason, but…

“I bet you’re nervous. It’s your first fitting?”

“Yes. I am pretty nervous.” Kirstin said as she was taking a tape out of the VCR.

“Well, it’s only normal to be nervous. It’s your wedding dress. Girls worry about that a lot.” Andrew kept his smile on.

“Yeah… Like… I don’t know if it’s the right choice. And if it goes well with Tom’s tux.”

“It will go well with any tux Tom might wear. And I’m pretty sure that’s gonna be the last thing Tom is gonna be worried about.”

     “Maybe you’re right.”

“I know I am. You’re gonna be gorgeous and all Tom is gonna think about is how lucky he is to be marrying a girl just like yourself.”

“You really think so?” Kirstin’s eyes were getting watery already.

“Of course. Any man would be more than lucky to be marrying a girl like you, K.”

“Aw, thanks so much Andy.” Kirstin hugged her boss. She liked her relationship with her boss. They were pretty good friends.

“You’re welcome girl. Now, what time do you have to be there?”

“At 5.” Kirstin informed and Andrew looked at his wristwatch.

“Well, it’s 4:20 now. I think you can go. Relax a little, drink a coffee or something, then go.”

“Really? Can I really go now?” Kirstin asked.

“Of course. Just go. I can handle it by myself.”

“If you want, I can stay. That’s ok, there’s just this segment here…”

     “Go!” Andrew cut her off.

“Thanks, Andy.” she smiled and pecked his cheek. When she was out of the room, Andrew just shook his head lightly and smiled.

Now it was 4:50 p.m. and Kirstin was somehow stuck in traffic. She was not too far away, but she wasn’t too close. Now Ashley would be waiting for her. She hated that.

“Come on, people!” she pressed the horn when the lights turned green and no one moved.

Ashley waited by ‘Glamour’, the wedding dress store. He looked at his watch. 5:20 p.m. ‘Must be stuck in traffic. She’s never late.’ he thought to himself. The minute he finished that thought, Kirstin appeared, running.

“Sorry. The traffic. Terrible.” she was having a hard time breathing.

“K, calm down. Where did you park?” Ashley put his hand on her shoulder, trying to calm her down.

“3 blocks away and then I came running.”

“I can see that.” he smiled at her and she did the same.

“Now, calm down and let’s get in.” ‘Why am I rushing this? Let it take time, Ashley!’ Ashley thought to himself again.

“Ok.” Kirstin said, breathing better now “Let’s go.”

“Are you sure? Don’t want to take some air?”

“No, I’m fine.” Kirstin was really fine.

     “Sure?”

“Yeah. Let’s go.” Kirstin pulled Ashley by his hand an they headed in.

NEW YORK CITY, NY – GLAMOUR – JAN. 15TH, 2001

The store was huge, filled with mirrors all around it. There were just a few dresses hanging, because the store did mostly custom made dresses.

A smiley woman about 30 years-old approached Kirstin and Ashley.

     “Hello. May I help you?”

“Yes.” Kirstin smiled back at the smiley woman “I’m here to try on my dress.”

     “Oh, ok. What’s the name?”

     “Addams.”

“Ok, Miss Addams. I’ll be right back.”

“Thank you.” Kirstin thanked as the nice lady trailed off “I’m nervous.”

“It’s normal.” Ashley smiled at her. But he was just as nervous as she was. For different reasons, of course, but just as nervous.

“If you don’t like it, swear you’ll tell me?”

“Yeah, of course. That’s what I’m here for.” Ashley winked at her.

“Thanks so much for being here with me, Ash. You don’t know how much this means to me.”

“You’re welcome, K. I already told you I’m always gonna be here when you need me.” Ashley smirked and Kirstin just couldn’t help but hug him. Tight.

“Aw, aren’t you a cute couple?” Kirstin backed away when she heard a lady’s voice. It was a woman about 50. Her daughter was there to buy a dress.

“Oh, no. He’s not really…” Kirstin was embarrassed. Ashley sensed that.

“Yeah, she’s not… We’re not…” Ashley was just as embarrassed.

“We’re not a couple. Just friends.” Kirstin was able to get that out.

“Oh, that’s a shame, because you really make a nice couple.” the lady said before her daughter called out to her.

Kirstin and Ashley made eye contact and grinned, both embarrassed. They didn’t say anything else until the saleswoman got near them.

“Miss Addams, I have the dress, but is your fiancée gonna see it? I mean, it’s bad luck and…” Kirstin frowned but then she got what the woman was saying as she looked over at Ashley.

“Oh, you mean him?” the woman just smiled.

“I’m not the fiancée.” Ashley looked down.

“Yes, we’re friends. He’s just here for moral support.” Kirstin grinned.

“Oh, I’m sorry, I thought…” the saleswoman tried to apologize, but Ashley cut her off.

“That’s ok.” he didn’t want to talk about it that much. That he wasn’t the one marrying Kirstin.

“Ok, so follow me, please Miss Addams. I’m sorry, Mister, but only woman are allowed in the dressing room.”

     “Oh.” Ashley said.

“But you could stay by that mirror, because she’s going that way when she’s got the dress on.”

“Oh, ok.” Ashley said and Kirstin waved him goodbye.

In front of the triple mirror set, there was a box where probably Kirstin would stand on to make the arrangements on the dress and then there was a couch, where Ashley sat on. He was nervous. He was playing with his fingers nonstop and tapping his feet. Anyone that would come out of the dressing room, he’d immediately think it was Kirstin, and his heart would start to beat rapidly, but then stop.

“What is taking so long?” Ashley mumbled, still playing with his fingers and tapping his feet “Stop it.” he said and took both his hands on his head, staring at the floor. When he looked up again, he found the most beautiful, most incredible sight he has ever seen with his own two eyes. Kirstin came walking towards him, taking his breath away. He didn’t even notice the 4 people holding the dress behind Kirstin as she was walking to the mirror. The closer she got, Ashley's heart started to beat more rapidly, until it felt like his heart was going to come right out of his chest, sending chills all through out his body.

Kirstin stepped onto the box in front of the mirror and the other 4 people were working on the arrangements already. Ashley’s mouth dropped wide open as he was looking at her reflection in the mirror and he began to picture her saying those wonderful words he would hear at a wedding. All of a sudden, it felt like he could hear nothing but wedding bells and daydreamed of her coming toward him with a bouquet. Ashley smiled so much that his face was starting to hurt. He wanted to cry from her beauty, but he pulled all his strength to with hold his tears.

“So? What do you think?” Kirstin asked as she placed the tiara on her head and put the scarf around her, checked how it looked in the mirror and saw Ashley’s reflection, smiling at her. Ashley just didn’t do anything. He couldn't stop from staring “Ash?” Kirstin frowned as her friend didn’t answer her “Ashley!” she snapped, turning to look at him.

“Oh, yeah.” Ashley didn’t even know what he was saying.

     “Oh, yeah what?” Kirstin frowned.

“Oh, yeah, I like it.” Ashley shook his thoughts off his head.

“Really? You don’t think it’s like… argh?” Kirstin made a funny face.

“No, it is not. Not at all.” Ashley said getting up. Kirstin was wearing an elegant white gown, very formal, coming off her shoulders, with spaghetti straps at the top. It was tight fitting at her chest showing off her amazing curves. The dress was a full length gown, with an empire waist. It had incredible embroidery detail at the top, working its way down to the front. The pattern and embroidery flowing down her gown as if white blossoms were coming down her dress “It’s really… wow…. It’s just… amazing, Kirstin.” Ashley couldn't help but stare at her, and watch her every move, bringing tears to his eyes.

“Do you think Tom will like it?” Ashley stood there in stunned silence, smiling immensely. Kirsten stared at him for a minute and snapped her fingers, waving her hands in his face “Ash?” she got nothing “Ashley?”

“Yes!” Ashley again shook his thoughts away.

“Do you think Tom will like it?”

“Who? Oh, Tom! Yeah…” Ashley looked down and played with his fingers. He was constantly doing that these last few days “I think he will.” he looked at Kirstin’s beautiful face and she smiled at him.
