~that saturday~

"Hey babe, you busy today?" Kyle asked me over the phone.

"What do you have in mind?"

"Wanna go see a movie?"

"And waste this beautiful Saturday inside?" I made it sound as if he were crazy.

"It's January!"

"So? It's supposed to be 60 out. Let's go for a walk."

"Okay fine."

"Is it okay with you if Zac comes?" I bit my lip and hoped he'd say yes.

"Who?"

"Zac. You know, my best friend? He's staying for a couple of weeks.... I told you this a week ago."

"Oh yeah.. sure he can come. I'd actually like to meet this guy."

"Okay, so where should we meet you?"

"The park?"

"What time?"

"Half hour sound good?"

"Perfect. We'll be there."

"Bye Baby." Zac came in just as I hung up. He flopped down on my bed and put his head in my lap.

"Who was that?"

"Kyle. You up for going for a walk with him in like half an hour?"

"Sure. I could use some exercise and I want to meet this guy."

"That you will."

"Should I get changed or anything?" I looked down at him, only in his boxers, and laughed.

"Some pants would be nice. Maybe a shirt... possibly a coat.."

"Funny.." He smiled up at me and sat up. "I'll go get changed now before your mom gives me another one of those looks." I laughed as he left the room and closed the door behind him. I got up and changed into something a little nicer and fixed my make-up so Kyle wouldn't think I looked horrible. I heard a knock at the door. "You decent?"

"Come in." He walked in and stopped when he saw me.

"You look nice... for a walk.."

"Thank you."

"Why you so dressed up?"

"I'm not...."

"You've never looked that nice for me.. Not even at the concert.." He frowned and sat on the bed. I turned around from the mirror and studied him for a moment. There was something in the way he looked at me that I didn't recognize. I blinked and turned back to the mirror to finish applying my eyeliner.

"That's because you aren't my boyfriend and Kyle is."

"Oh." His voice was almost sad. I looked at him through the mirror and saw that look still on his face. I turned back around and studied him again.

"What's wrong, Zac?" I sat down next to him with a concerned look on my face. He didn't look at me, wouldn't.

"Nothing. You wanna go now?" I could tell he'd changed the subject on purpose but I left it at that, not wanting to get into anything with him at the moment. I'd ask him about it later.

"Sure." He stood up and I stood up and we walked, hand-in-hand, to the park. Kyle wasn't there yet so we sat on a bench and talked, still hand-in-hand, until he got there. Kyle walked up, took one look at our hands, and his eyes instantly narrowed. I bit my lip and stood up, dropping Zac's hand and hugging Kyle. "Hey."

"Hey babe.." He hugged back and kissed me sweetly. I smiled and pulled back.

"This is Zac, Zac, this is Kyle." I introduced them, hoping for the best. They looked each other over skeptically, as two wrestlers size each other up before a match. I took this as a very bad sign. Zac got up and walked over to us.

"You're one of those Hanson boys, aren't you?"

"Zac, nice to meet you, Kyle." He smiled in a friendly way and held out his hand to shake Kyle's. Kyle just eyed him, grabbed my hand, and started walking. Zac caught up with us, looking extremely awkward, almost as awkward as I felt. We walked for about half an hour before I faked a headache and Kyle went home. I grabbed Zac's hand and leaned on his shoulder as we walked down the street.

"So?" I don't know why I even asked, I knew he hated him. It was obvious and he had every right to not like Kyle. Kyle had taken every opportunity to be as rude as possible to Zac.

"I don't like him." I half-smiled, glad that he at least stated his true opinion.

"I kind of got that feeling when you told him football was a sissy sport."

"Well it is. Only half-brains play it."

"I know.."

"And he must be a half-brain because I am not one of those Hanson boys'. I am Zac Hanson, drummer of a band called Hanson. There is a difference."

"I know and I'm sorry.. I guess he was just jealous that we were holding hands when he walked up."

"We always hold hands. He needs to relax."

I sighed heavily, "I know.."

"So, what do you want to do for the rest of the day?"

"We could keep on walking and see where we end up."

"I thought you had a headache."

"It's gone.."

"Okay then, off we go." He smiled as we walked, a smile that made me smile. His smile always made me smile. It was infectious to say the least. I just wished Kyle could be that way.
