It is common reasoning that the children of today are the work force of tomorrow. By educating children about where the wrong choices can lead, we in L.I.F.E. 101 feel that we can stop many of them from making those choices. By doing this, we also believe we are changing the work force of the future. When fewer children are turning to drugs and alcohol, in the future there will be lowered numbers of on the job accidents, increased job attendance, lowered health costs, lowered Workers� Compensation rates, and a lowered prison population.
In L.I.F.E. 101, the speakers do not talk about the health risks or legal issues that arise from drug and alcohol use, as much as the everyday consequences that inevitable follow. We discuss the effect on the user�s family, job, self esteem and circle of influence. The thing that makes L.I.F.E. 101 stand apart from other drug and alcohol awareness programs is that our speakers are not in positions of authority. For example, the founder and president of L.I.F.E. 101, Jerry Mountain, was a drug addict and alcoholic for over 25 years. As a result of his choices, he was incarcerated. Several years ago, thanks to a power greater than himself and a program of recovery, Jerry has found a new and exciting life without drugs and alcohol. We at L.I.F.E. 101 realize that neither drugs nor alcohol are necessary to be cool, fit in, or have fun, and we are passionate about sharing this message with today�s youth.
