| Grand Assembly is always such a wonderful opportunity to renew friendships and become more enthused about Rainbow. It is hard to beleive that yet another Grand has passed and we must part again for our home towns and more hard work for our assemblies. Words cannot express how honored I have been to serve as your Grand Worthy Advisor for this year. I have had eleven marvolous months of getting to know Alaska Rainbow better and I was pleasantly suprised by what I encountedred in my travels to Juenau, Fairbanks, Palmer and Anchorage. Lots of dedication and love, tons of smiles and hugs, and a veritable wagon load of chocolate covered cherries. I detaled my trips to the assemblies in the Aurora so all of you are framiliar to the planning and work that went into them. Girls and adults alike went to extreme measures to make my visits as fantastic as possible. What a wonderful way to spend my last year as a Rainbow Girl. I felt truely blessed to have so many friends. Way back when I was elected Grand Worthy Advisor, I had the same goal in mind that many other Grand Worthy Advisors before me had, to make Rainbow even more special and magical than it already was. Not an easy ask for something already as great as Rainbow. One of the ways I tried to accomplish this was to choose Disney Characters as my mascot. Walt Disney and his animated friends have always had a special place in my heart. The many movies created by Mr. Disney and his company have brought a lot of joy to me as I am sure they have to many of you. I have had many cloudy days brightened by them, like Pollyanna, Sleeping Beauty, and Swiss Family Robinson. I made a hobby of collecting Disney trivia, collecting Disney art and books and travelling to Disneyland and Disneyworld. Some people have asked me, OK, so when are you going to stop being a kid. My answer is never. Not that I like cartoons, mind you, but beause I enjoy having a young heart full of wonder and possibility for the future. Imagine what it would be like if everyone saw the would through the eyes of a small child.Everything would be bright and new and full of myster. People would be able to see past experiences and like a person for who they really are. That is one reason why I believe it to be appropriate for Rainbow. Because being involved in Rainbow keeps you young at heart. Although the lessons that our beautiful order teaches are timeless they also encourage enthusiasum for life, tolerance for people different from us and wonder in each day. If only everyone saw the world through the eyes of a Rainbow GIrl, lif would be very sweet indeed. And if only one of you enjoyed getting back to your childhood just a few moments this year I will have accomplished my goal. One goal that continue to plague is membership. This year saw one assembly surrender its charter and many more struggling to survive. We must not let our Rainbow fade. Get together to brainstorm for fresh ideas and make membership a priority. I'm not talking about getting new girls initiated either. Try to keep your current members active and enthusiastic about Rainbow, making them feel wanted and appreciated and work together as a team to solve problems when or if they arise. And lastly, always remember that YOU are someone's impression of Rainbow. I believe I have learned a lot about Rainbow this past year. I didn't think it was possible when I first became GWA but I am so glad I was wrong. Rainbow, like life, will always be a classroom and I don't have any pearls of wisdom to pass on except for one. Keep listening to our lectures with an interested ear. If you do, you ill discover new meaning and lessons as your life changes. Don't just memorieze them, live them. Don't turn on the Rainbow girl inside of you only when you are at Rainbow. Leave her burning brightly all the time. You might not only make your own life better, you might inspire others around you to do the same. I'd like to close by saying thanks to all of you, not only for making my year as GWA fantastic but with sticking with rainbow and working hard to keep it going for the future Alaska Rainbow Girls. And thanks from tomorrow's Rainbow Girls in advance. Thank you. | |||||||
