According to Kimberly

By Linda Childers
Pregnancy Magazine
February 2007

The prolific star talks about her marriage to one of country music's hottest performers, her pregnancy, and her plans for the future

Fans first met actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley as the blushing bride who starred opposite Steve Martin in the comedic Father of the Bride films. Since then, Williams-Paisley has established herself as a versatile actress who charms audiences whether she's starring as a mom in the movie How to eat Fried Worms, or as a high-strung career woman on the hit television show According to Jim.

Married to country singer Brad Paisley, Williams-Paisley is awaiting the birth of their first child, due this month. Recently, she spoke to Pregnancy magazine about how she's preparing for this highly anticipated role as well as her plans to juggle career and family.

PM: Congratulations on your pregnancy! Do you know if you're having a boy or a girl?
KWP: Thank you! Brad and I decided not to find out the sex of our baby in advance. We're kind of old-fashioned that way. Except for a few days during my first trimester when I wasn't feeling that great, it's been a terrific pregnancy.

PM: How did you first share the good news with Brad?
KWP: We were traveling to one of Brad's performances and were literally in the middle of nowhere when I first suspected I was pregnant. We stopped the tour bus and I borrowed a baseball cap and sunglasses from one of brad's band members so I could go into this little store and purchase a pregnancy test without being recognized! I even bought a magazine just to cover up the pregnancy test. The fun part came when I brought the pregnancy kit back to the bus and Brad and I tried to decipher the test results. I had this faint little line, and we were both squinting at it trying to decide if that meant we were pregnant or not. We decided it meant yes.

PM: Are you having any pregnancy food cravings?
KWP: I'm hungry a lot of the time and I'm eating a lot of oatmeal and milk. I never used to just sit down and drink a tall, cold glass of milk until I became pregnant.

PM: Have you picked out any baby names?
KWP: There's a couple that we like, but we haven't signed off on anything yet. And we're keeping them all a secret!

PM: Do you have a birth plan?
KWP: I'm very excited because I just hired a doula. I have a stack of pregnancy books next to my bed that's about two feet high. Two of my favorites are What to Expect When You're Expecting and The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy. I'm trying to read books that are positive, and I'm veering away from the books that evoke fear and worry.

PM: You look great. Have you been exercising?
KWP: Yes, I've been doing yoga for 13 years and started doing prenatal yoga when I became pregnant. I also take our dog Holler, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, on walks every day.

PM: This is a big time in your life. You're expecting your first child and you also star in two movies that are creating quite a buzz.
KWP: Yes, I play Matthew McConnaughey's wife in the film We Are Marshall, the true story of the Marshall University football team that was devastated by a plane crash in 1970 that killed 75 people, including all but a few of the players. Matthew plays Jack Lengyl, that man who took over the football program after the crash and turned them into one of the most successful football teams in college history. I also wrote and directed a short independent film called Shade. It's the fictional story of a woman who has Xeroderma Pigmentosum, a debilitating genetic defect that prevents her from seeing the sun. I play the woman, Laura, and Patrick Dempsey plays my husband.

PM: How are you planning to juggle your career with family?
KWP: My television show finished filming the past season in January, and I definitely plan to take some time off. I just finished directing my second episode of According to Jim, and the movie Shade, and I've found I love directing. I also love to write. I wrote a column for Redbook, and I'm currently writing a comedic film. I love to make people laugh!

PM: Has Brad sung to the baby?
KWP: He has and so has my dad, who is a journalist, not a professional singer. I grew up listening to my dad sing, and it's nice hearing him sing the same songs he sang to me as a child. Whenever Brad or my dad sings, the baby gets really excited and starts to kick. It's a wonderful time and the pregnancy has brought Brad and I even closer together.

Southern Comfort

By Shannan Rouss
Self Magazine
November 2006

For city girl Kimberly Williams-Paisley, relocating to a Nashville farm was a culture shock. Now the actress reveals how the move helped her overcome old fears and welcome new possibilities.

Love can make a person do crazy things: Romeo drank hemlock; Angelina got a tattoo (then had it removed); Big flew to Paris; Kimberly Williams rode a horse. OK, so riding a horse may not seem all that crazy, but for the Los Angeles-based actress (she stars in ABC's According to Jim) and New York native, it was a daring move since she had hardly ever ridden before. She had begun dating country music crooner Brad Paisley and was making her first visit to his Nashville farm. "I was really falling for Brad at that point. I wanted to make a good impression. I was going for the country thing big time," she recalls. So she hopped on Paisley's horse Palomar. The ride went smoothly at first, but during a gallop across a field, Palomar stopped suddenly, and Williams (now Williams-Paisley) kept going. "I flew right off the front of him," she says. And cracked a rib. Embracing country life wasn't going to be as easy as she had hoped.

It wasn't only her encounters with animals that threw Williams-Paisley, 35, who, in addition to her TV gig, appears in We Are Marshall with Matthew McConaughey, out this December. "I felt like an outsider," she says. "If Brad and I passed someone on the road, it was customary to stop and talk about nothing, just a calm exchange of pleasantries. That was very strange for me coming from New York, where you keep your head down and keep moving." Something else that took getting used to: "Everyone I met wanted to give me a hug."

Luckily for Williams-Paisley, who married Paisley in 2003 and divides her time between Nashville and L.A., her husband's love for the country music capital rubbed off on her: "He has such an appreciation for Nashville, and that has helped my view of it. I spend more time with small talk than I used to. I find myself sitting and talking to people I might have brushed past before. I think it's made me a better person. I'm a little more open, more available."

She's even open to riding again, though she has been leery of horses since her fall (the Paisleys have three, plus a herd of cows). This summer, she traveled to the Miraval Spa in Tucson, Arizona, to participate in the Equine Experience, which uses interaction with horses as a backdrop for overcoming any fear. And though her relationship with horses is still tentative, she has come to embrace Nashville's friendly vibe and southern hospitality. The city is starting to feel more and more like home. "I really love the people I've come to know here," she says."Now I'm ready for the hug when it comes."

A Place To Call Home

By Degen Pener
In Style Magazine
April 2006

At their L.A. home, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley and her husband, Brad Paisley, have found common ground, where they can watch old movies, play on their laptops, and indulge the little one (Sit, Holler, sit!)

After Kimberly Williams-Paisley bought a house two years ago with her country-singer husband, Brad Paisley, she didn't consult him on a single decorating idea. Not even for a second. "To be honest, I didn't pick out anything for this house," says Brad, sitting in the comfy media room of the couple's L.A. home. "There was no reason for me to get involved. I would have had car parts on the wall or a painting of dogs playing poker. It wouldn't have been good."

Brad, a five-time CMA winner whose hits include "Little Moments" and "Celebrity," used to have a bachelor pad in Nashville with just such regular-guy decor. And Kimberly, a co-star on the sitcom According to Jim (her first hit was the 1991 film remake of Father of the Bride), lived in a small, single-gal bungalow in Los Angeles. But after they met in 2002 (Paisley asked her to be in one of his music videos) and got engaged eight months later, they realized that neither place was right for the two of them. Shortly after their 2003 wedding, the long-distance couple - he records in Nashville, she tapes her show in L.A. - started searching for larger places in both cities that would fit their down-home personalities. "We love to do nothing, because we travel so much," says Kimberly, who often keeps Brad company on tour. "We just needed to have a space that was both of ours - cozy and welcoming."

Today, Kimberly, 34, and Brad, 33, own two such homes: a century-old farmhouse on an 85-acre spread outside Nashville and this four-bedroom home on bluffs above the beach in L.A., which they moved into last June. But while the place in Tennessee was in good condition, the couple's West Coast residence was in need of a top-to-bottom overhaul. "We bought this house thinking we'd repaint and recarpet," says Kimberly. "But it was one of those things where you pull off one layer and find one problem, then pull that off and find more ... and more."

The house, built in 1928, needed a personality makeover too. The couple -- and their interior designer, Linda Zale Marcuse of Zale Design Studio -- were sold on the home's inviting great room, which boasts a fireplace that still has its original tile and a dramatic 24-foot-wide front window. But the dwelling had been added to so many times over the decades that it had lost most of its character. After a year and a half of renovations, Zale Marcuse held an unveiling party for Kimberly, who had been in Nashville for the last few months of the reconstruction work. "I cried when I saw it," Kimberly says.

What brought on the tears is a design striking in both its care for detail and the way it succeeds in unifying the once muddled look of the house. Overall the decor has a strong American sensibility, from the restored Craftsman-era detail on the staircase railing to the old-time quilts in the bedroom. But the addition of Asian pieces - including a huge, 45-drawer antique Chinese apothecary in the great room - gives the house an eclectic feel. "I wanted the house to express different moods," explains Kimberly.

The green room now includes a comfortable sitting area with a pair of sofas, a lounge chair and pillows done in cranberry red and moss-green floral prints that match the colors of the garden, visible from the front window. Zale Marcuse also added custom iron-and-stained-glass sconces, toned down the walls' rough stucco finish, and reshaped the arches that connect to the foyer and dining room to give them graceful curves.

The master bedroom, painted a vibrant blue to pick up on the second-floor ocean views, has an early-American feel, with a dowry chest, a framed crazy quilt and a simple wooden chair that has been in Kimberly's family for generations. Because the ceiling's beams and odd angles give it a busy feel, Zale Marcuse, on the advice of a feng shui expert, suspended a canopylike drop, made of bamboo and a white gossamer fabric, over the bed. "It calms down the energy," says Kimberly.

The room she loves most is the kitchen. Painted a serene pale yellow, it boasts custom cabinetry and hammered-nickel drawer pulls, sturdy Viking appliances and a rough-cut stone floor. The pretty, user-friendly room encourages Kimberly to cook frequently. "Actually, I have dinner parties when Brad is out of town," she says, "so I can experiment on my friends."

Despite careers that often keep them in different cities, the pair manage to spend about two and a half weeks together every month. (Kimberly is in Nashville for a little over a week, and Brad makes it to L.A. for about the same amount of time.) After putting so much time and money into their West Coast pad, the two relish their downtime here. Brad likes to go for runs along the cliffs overlooking the ocean, while Kimberly never misses the nearby Sunday morning farmers market. Together they take Holler on walks around the tree-shaded neighborhood. They also like to spend time watching old movies - and fiddling on their matching laptops. The only rule, says Kimberly, is "no laptops to bed." Otherwise, she says, "Brad would probably take his computer everywhere."

And - imagine this - Brad has even made a decorating contribution of his own to the couple's home, and it's not a fender with lights on it. He bought his wife a painting of a pier by an artist from Carmel, Calif. The piece has romantic resonance because Brad proposed to Kimberly on the Venice pier, and the two honeymooned in Carmel. "It's so nice to be able to put it in a warm space that we created together," says Kimberly. And it sure as heck beats Dogs Playing Poker.

Puppy Love
According to Kim and Holler

Hollywood Dog
Jan/Feb 2006

Kimberly Williams-Paisley first won our hearts as Steve Martin's daughter in Father of the Bride, and now she makes us laugh as Dana on ABC's sitcom According to Jim. Since the introduction of a certain four-legged "child," Kim - with the help of her husband, country music star Brad Paisley - has become a true dog lover. Her favorite time of day is when she wakes her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Holler, for an early-morning snuggle. And she can't get enough of Holler's party tricks . . . Our advice for the new parents? Get that dog an agent!

WHERE DID YOU GET HOLLER?
I got Holler in Tennessee, from a breeder in Franklin [TN], Dellwood Cavaliers. Cindy DeLoache runs it, and she's fantastic. It's been a great resource for us because they live five minutes from where we live in Nashville, so I take Holler to see his cousins all the time. And Cindy is my expert Cavalier person, so anytime I have a Cavalier question, I can call her. He's eight months old.

AND HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON THE NAME HOLLER?
We definately didn't want a name that other dogs had. We kept trying to find something that was unique. And Holler is a slang term in the South for a valley. And we live in a valley in Nashville so we thought it was a nice tribute to where he came from.

SO YOU LIVE BETWEEN LOS ANGELES AND NASHVILLE?
We go back and forth. We go back a week every month to Nashville.

WHICH DOES HOLLER PREFER?
He likes them both. We've got fenced in yards in both places so he's got lots of room to run around. There's a lot of cow poop [in Nashville] that he's very fond of. We're trying to train him out of that. He's got a lot of friends there, but he has some friends here [in LA] too that he's made. So I think he likes both, just as we do.

IS HE THE FIRST DOG THAT YOU'VE OWNED?
Yes, I actually never considered myself a dog person until I got Holler.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GET A DOG?
Well, my hairdresser on According to Jim brought in this adorable little puppy one day. And maybe it was the mother instinct in me; maybe it was just a desire for another companion. We just fell in love with the dog. So, I started reading because I've never had a dog, and I didn't really know much about it. I didn't know how to train a dog; I didn't know really what it entailed. I started going to different breeders and meeting the dogs and did all the research. And we loved the breed. They travel really well, which is good for us, because I knew that we wanted to take the dog everywhere. Also, people who are allergic to dogs have a tendency to not be allergic to Cavaliers. I always thought I was allergic to dogs, but now I think it's something my mom told me because she didn't want us to get a dog.

HAVE YOU ASKED YOUR MOM ABOUT YOUR "ALLERGIES"?
I kind of have. And she says, "Oh, I don't know, I don't know." She's sort of vague about it. We had really exotic pets growing up. We had birds, we had snakes, we had mice, guinea pigs. I think we had a turtle, all kinds of other things. But my parents love Holler.

AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE MORE--DOGS OR SNAKES?
[Laughter] You guess! I'm just crazy about my snake! No, I love dogs now. It's so funny, I just never thought I would be a dog person and now I'm such a dog person.

YOU RECENTLY MARRIED BRAD PAISLEY, AND YOU BOTH DECIDED TO GET THIS PUPPY. DO YOU THINK IT'S CHANGED THE DYNAMIC IN TERMS OF MARRIED LIFE, OR FAMILY LIFE?
Oh, definately. It's sort of the first step towards starting a family. It's like having a baby in some ways - we both have to be responsible; we both absolutely adore the dog. Our first question in the morning is: Has Holler gone to the bathroom? What color was it? Has he eaten? How much has he eaten? If there's ever a problem, we're both really involved. It's been really fun to do - to care about another creature with my husband. We both really love taking care of Holler.

DO YOU FEEL IT HAS MADE YOU KIND OF MORE EAGER TO START A FAMILY?
It's given me a sense of what it's going to be like. I'm just kind of catching up on my sleep after having a puppy. It's made us understand the concept of what it's like - to have a baby in the house - just on a smaller, much smaller scale. So, yeah, it's gotten me excited about it, but right now I'm mostly excited about Holler.

HOW DO YOU SPOIL HOLLER?
We take him to the Blue Cross Animal Hospital and they groom too, and they do a great job. And Tamar Geller is our dog trainer, and she's been fantastic. She taught me a lot about how to train a dog.

WHAT HAVE YOU TRAINED HOLLER TO DO?
Well, we got him to sit in a day. And "down" he had in a day. Brad loves to teach him tricks. Brad is so funny - he pretends he's holding a gun and goes "Pow!" and Holler falls down on the floor. It's a big party trick.

WILL HOLLER GO ON TOUR WITH BRAD?
Yeah, he's a bus dog, too. He loves the bus. He was on the bus the second day we had him - we actually brought him home and then we had to go out on the road. He just ran up and down the bus. It was great. He's never gotten carsick. He's been to more states in this country than I can count.

IS HE A FAN OF COUNTRY MUSIC?
I think he thinks it's a little loud. Brad was recording his album when Holler was a baby. And he kept playing different tracks from the album; he was just listening to how they were coming out. And every time he turned on the music, I had to take Holler in the back cause the doors were vibrating. But he got used to it.

DOES HE COME ON SET WITH YOU, TO ACCORDING TO JIM?
Yes, he comes on set. He's spoiled there too. There's always people that want to see him, or play with him.

DO YOU THINK HE'LL EVER GUEST STAR?
He did, actually. If you blink you miss him; he was in the opening. I was so nervous the day he was in the show. I was the most nervous stage mom. Jim [Belushi] had his giant German Shepherds on the set too. And I was afraid they were going to eat Holler. Everyone laughed at me because I was standing right there by the camera the whole time like a nervous mom. But Holler did really well. He didn't get eaten and he was really cute in the episode. They cut out his close-up, which Holler was very upset about.

I THINK HE'S PROBABLY GOING TO GO TO S.A.G. WITH THAT.
He might have to. I think it's because he was much cuter than Jim.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT OWNING A DOG?
He's so snuggly. I love getting him up in the morning - I just pull him out of his crate and he's all sleepy and cozy and cuddly. I sneak and he sleeps in the bed with me. I just love sleeping with him next to me - he's so soft and warm. I also love the company. I love focusing on something other than myself. It's just nice to focus on this adorable furry little guy who needs my help.

DOES OWNING A DOG MAKE YOU MORE CONSCIOUS OF ANIMAL WELFARE?
It's made me a lot more aware. We definately want to rescue a dog next time around. We go to the adoption places - in Nashville, Happy Tails, is a place we donate money. There's so many little puppies and dogs in the world that nobody has and nobody wants and they need to be rescued and they're wonderful pets.

AND WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR DOG?
I've learned that positive reinforcement is a really powerful tool.

Super-cute babies on hold

Speaking of country-music romances, life seems picture-perfect for Brad Paisley and his wife, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley. He's up for six trophies at the Country Music Association Awards on Tuesday, while she's got a co-starring role on the sitcom According to Jim.

The couple, who split time between homes in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and Franklin, Tenn., seem to have everything. Well, almost everything. Not to sound like a nosy aunt or anything, but when is there going to be a little Paisley stomping around?

"I wanted a baby. Brad gave me a dog," the missus tells People. "We're both really busy so it's not the right time yet. But we're going to have a family sooner or later."

Probably later. Paisley has tour dates lined up through August of next year.

Role Of A Lifetime

by Honor Brodie
InStyle
February 2004

Kimberly Williams-Paisley's down-home wedding to country singer-songwriter Brad Paisley went off without a hitch. Not surprising, really, considering the bride's extensive (onscreen) practice.

--------------------------------------

For Kimberly Williams, being cast as the sweet and bubbly daughter in the 1991 movie Father of the Bride would prove to be the kind of delightful coincidence one usually finds only in, well, romantic comedies. Not only would the role catapult the 19-year-old Northwestern coed from obscurity to stardom, but a decade later it would unite her with her future husband, Grammy-nominated country crooner Brad Paisley.

The singer-songwriter, now 32, always loved the movie--not because he was stuck on Williams but because it was special to him and his girlfriend at the time. Soon after the two broke up, he bought tickets for the opening night of the sequel, Father of the Bride, Part II, hoping his ex would show up at the theater. When she didn't, Paisley went home and penned "Part II," the title track on his second album in which he sang, "If this were only Tinseltown, I'd see you in Part II, and we'd pick up where we left off."

Flash forward seven years, when Paisley called Williams's agent to see if the actress would be interested in appearing in one of his music videos. Williams didn't know who he was but agreed to meet him. Sparks flew, and by the time the shoot wrapped, the couple had embarked on a long-distance Nashville-L.A. courtship, which culminated in a cinematic proposal on the Venice Pier in California. Paisley presented his muse with a Peter Norman marquise diamond ring.

So, did Martin Short magically appear, talking tulle and multi-tier cakes? Not a chance. "I didn't want anyone comparing our wedding to the one in the movie," Williams-Paisley says. With low-key Malibu as the venue, party planner Mindy Weiss created a laid-back daytime affair. The invitations read "Denim required," a nod to the bridegroom's country roots.

When the couple's family and friends arrived for the Saturday night run-through at the Pepperdine University chapel on March 15, they were in for a shock. Williams, 32, wearing a Mark Zunino denim coat, walked down the aisle as a gospel choir sang "Walk Through This World with Me." When she reached the groom, she slipped off her coat, handed it to her father, Gurney, and yelled "Surprise!" When the guests caught sight of her wedding dress, they realized it was no rehearsal, but the real wedding. They let out a cheer before the Williams family's Episcopal minister, Susan Harris, and Paisley's Baptist preacher, Mike Glenn, pronounced them husband and wife.

After the ceremony the wedding party motored up the Pacific Coast Highway for a celebratory dinner at Allegria, a trattoria. The next day, on a windy afternoon, the couple had their "official" wedding reception. Wearing a Juicy hoodie and jeans, Williams-Paisley greeted 280 guests in a tent overlooking the Pacific. Revelers two-stepped to a country band, bounced on an inflated kids' castle, and ate burgers, fries and cotton candy. Keeping with the playful mood was the wedding cake Carol Pawlak made out of a tower of cupcakes. As the sun set, Paisley and the woman he'd first seen in a movie sped off in his Corvette--no doubt marveling that sometimes wife does indeed imitate art.

Brad Rowe, Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Patrick Dempsey star in Lucky 7.

A marriage of opposites

By Mike Hughes
Gannett News Service
July 20, 2003

Romance can be funny. It bypasses logic and leaps to emotion. It toys with opposites.

Sure, people learn that lesson on reality shows, and in TV movies like "Lucky 7," airing 7 p.m. today on ABC Family. It stars Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Patrick Dempsey. But Williams-Paisley also has learned those realities in real life.

She was a city kid from New York trying too much, too fast. Then in March she married Brad Paisley, a country star from West Virginia.

"I think Brad knows how to slow down," Williams-Paisley says. "Maybe that's the Southern, laid-back mood. It's like sitting on a porch drinking lemonade."

That sort of opposites-attract tale is also at the core of "Lucky 7."

The story finds Amy (Williams-Paisley) following a time line prepared by her late mother. That includes mapping out a timetable by which she receives her law degree and husband. According to her mother, her seventh boyfriend should be the one she marries.

Alas, the perfect guy (played by perfect-looking Brad Rowe) arrives in time to be No. 6. Amy decides to delay him while dating an imperfect chap (Dempsey).

That plot is a stretch. Viewers might agree with the character who tells Amy, "This is beyond stupid."

However, you'll be glued because of the appeal of romance and of Williams-Paisley.

"This is the first romantic comedy I've been offered lately," she says. "I really wanted to take it."

Her natural state involves keeping busy.

Both parents are in medical fields -- her dad as a writer and editor, her mom as a fund-raiser. As a teen, Kimberly acted in commercials and in "Stood Up," an after-school special.

She then studied theater at Northwestern University. "My parents are really supportive of whatever I do," she says.

In her sophomore year she was among hundreds who auditioned to play the daughter of Steve Martin and Diane Keaton in a remake of "Father of the Bride."

She flew to Hollywood for a tryout. "I thought, 'I can always tell my grandchildren that I was in the same room with Steve Martin.' "

The news came on a night when her family was visiting college.

"We'd gone to see a play," she says. "I was calling my agent from a pay phone. All of a sudden, we're all jumping and yelling. My mother had to explain to people, 'She just got a role in a movie.' "

Her younger sister, Ashley Williams, recalls that night vividly. In the middle of the night, she woke up and saw Kimberly. "She was sitting there with her eyes wide open," Ashley says.

Kimberly was getting the same role once played by Elizabeth Taylor. Her life would change.

She returned to Northwestern, got her degree, then seemed to work constantly. She did the "Father of the Bride" sequel and two ABC series, "Relativity" and "According to Jim." She also has starred in TV movies and lots of plays.

For someone who studied theater, the big moments came when she worked with top playwrights -- Neil Simon (in CBS' "Jake's Women") and David Mamet (in a London production of "Speed-the-Plow"). One night she met Mamet and playwright Harold Pinter.

"I tried to buy them both a drink when I saw them at a restaurant," she says. "Pinter said, 'That's OK; we're already quite sloshed.' "

Her frame of reference is Broadway, not Nashville. When she met Paisley at a video shoot, however, she was instantly impressed. "He made me laugh and he wasn't in awe," she says.

Soon, she took him to meet the family. "He did a little concert for everyone," says Ashley Williams, who stars in NBC's "Good Morning, Miami."

The family approved. Now Brad and Kimberly are married with homes in California and in Nashville, where she's still learning to take it slow.

"Brad took me to the home of (country legend) George Jones," she says. "The greatness of the man was lost on me at the time. I just didn't know."

She's in a marriage of opposites. That, TV tells us, is a good thing.

Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams throw a wild surprise wedding

A wedding party gathers in Malibu, Calif., for a Saturday-night rehearsal dinner. The groom stands in a denim jacket and locks eyes with his fiancee at the other end of the room. Suddenly she unsnaps her long denim dress to reveal a wedding gown underneath. Surprise!

Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams shocked their families by turning what was supposed to be a rehearsal into a full-fledged wedding ceremony. Only their parents, the two ministers and the wedding coordinator knew in advance about their bait-and-switch, planned by Brad and Kimberly to throw off the press and other prying parties.

A gospel choir sang, then Brad and Kimberly - star of the TV sitcom According to Jim, which has featured Brad as a guest star - officially became man and wife. The couple had been engaged since last October, after meeting on a blind date about a year and a half ago.

Following the ceremony, the choir sang a few more songs before the celebrants all sat down to an Italian feast.

On Sunday came more good food, with everyone enjoying barbecued chicken, popcorn, cotton candy and doughnuts during a reception at Malibu Bluffs Park, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Entertainment was supplied by a small country band - joined by the newly married Brad himself, along with Kimberly's TV costar Jim Belushi, who played harmonica.

Following the reception, Brad and Kimberly drove away - tin cans rattling underneath the car - onto the Pacific Coast Highway and into their future together.

Brad About You

Country singer Brad Paisley and actress Kimberly Williams, America's Nicest Couple, now make up America's Nicest Married Couple.

Brad and Kimberly got married Saturday in a small private ceremony in Malibu in Southern California, a place that Brad has said before is the only part of the L.A. area he can stomach.

The two then had a blow-out Sunday to celebrate, and, yes, there were celebs from both the worlds of Hollywood and country music. No word on who they were, but it could've been anyone.

Brad had just finished a week of shooting for the video for his new single called Celebrity.

"Father of Bride Beauty to Wed"

Star
November 19, 2002

The bride from Father of the Bride, Kimberly Williams, is marrying country musician Brad Paisley in the spring - but forget the bridesmaids.

"We're going nontraditional," says Williams, 31, who played Steve Martin's daughter in both Father of the Bride and its sequel and now stars as Jim Belushi's sister-in-law in ABC's According to Jim.

"Brad's a no-fanfare guy and doesn't want an elaborate wedding," a close friend of the couple tells Star. "And that's no problem for Kimberly. They're so happy together, they just want to settle down and have kids."

Paisley, 30, proposed last May, and Williams said yes after the two, who met on a blind date a year ago, cheated death aboard a charter jet.

The plane blew an engine and a tire on takeoff and they had to circle a Nashville airport for four agonizing hours so the pilot could burn enough fuel to make an emergency landing.

"They bonded deeply during the experience and realized how fragile life is, and I believe they'll have a happy union," says the friend. Williams and Paisley seem mismatched, but they make beautiful music together, an insider tells Star.

"Kimberly is an extrovert and Brad plays it close to the vest - if you didn't know him, you'd say he's stuck up," says the insider. "But they bring out the best in each other."

Although they're both in showbiz, Brad doesn't enjoy acting, and Kimberly knows nothing about country music.

"Brad was talking to her about one of his musical idols, Merle Haggard, and she didn't even know who he was!" says the insider.

But one glimpse of them together is all it takes to realize how deeply in love they are. "Brad is sweet and attentive toward her and Kimberly loves the old-fashioned Southern gentleman in him - she never has to open a door when he's around," another insider adds.

Williams, who stars in Paisley's latest music video, I'm Gonna Miss Her, has adapted to his good-ol'-boy lifestyle and now even loves to go fishing.

Jet makes safe emergency landing in Nashville

By WARREN DUZAK
State Correspondent
Monday, 05/06/02

An American Airlines flight leaving Nashville for Los Angeles with at least four celebrities aboard made an emergency landing here last night after staying aloft to use much of its 23,000 gallons of fuel.

''Basically they spent the last four hours circling to lessen the fuel so they could come in for a safe landing,'' Nashville International Airport spokeswoman Allison McAfee said.

None of the 105 people, including the crew, was hurt when Flight 1307 landed about 8 p.m. It had taken off at 4 p.m.

Among the passengers were country music star Brad Paisley and his girlfriend of about a year, actress Kimberly Williams of the ABC sitcom According to Jim and The Father of the Bride movies.

Contacted late last night, Paisley described a quiet but tense atmosphere aboard the plane.

''People were as calm as could be, but there were a few people crying,'' he said.

Paisley said he and Williams were traveling to the West Coast for her appearance tomorrow on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn. It wasn't clear last night why the Osborn sisters and Goodman were headed to Los Angeles.

Paisley shared his fellow passengers' relief about the landing.

''The actual landing was one of the smoothest I've ever had. You'd never know anything was wrong except your head was tucked between your legs.''

. . . Grammy stars hit the BMG Spot

By Scott Huver, Hollywood.com, Inc
March 1, 2002

Cutest couple: No one looked more adorable together than country singer Brad Paisley, who arrived with his music video co-star and new girlfriend, actress Kimberly Williams, on his arm. When I asked if she was expecting a good spread inside, Kimberly hungrily exclaimed, "There'd better be." If not, she said she'd be on her way to In-and-Out burger. Paisley was decked out in a cowboy hat and a shredded Sears & Roebuck/Black & Decker suit jacket (actually, it was Fujiwara), while Williams was absolutely elegant in a vintage black strapless Chanel cocktail gown and matching Chanel shoes.

Now that they've sampled each other's worlds, I asked which one was crazier: Hollywood or the music industry. "Absolutely Hollywood," said Brad, at the same time Kimberly said, "Absolutely the music industry!" Brad is--somewhat reluctantly--considering some acting offers, but is Kimberly ready to sing? "In the shower!" she said. So no recording contract for her? "Brad?" she asked her beau, batting her eyes expectantly. "I'm not a miracle worker," he teased.

BRAD PAISLEY BUSY EDUCATING KIMBERLY

AFC News
March 14, 2002

Brad Paisley didn't officially acknowledge that he was dating actress Kimberly Williams until they attended the Grammy Awards together. "We were walking in and it was the first time anybody had asked me directly, someone from Entertainment Tonight shouted out, 'Are you all dating?' and I said, 'Yes.'" Kimberly, who starred in the Father of the Bride films and now co-stars on the ABC TV show, According to Jim, is not a big country music fan. So, Brad has been educating her, including taking her to the home of George Jones. Brad says Kimberly had no idea who Jones was and referred to him as "a nice old man." Funny thing is, George had no idea who Kimberly was either. When Nancy Jones told George she was a movie star, Jones said, "I didn't know, I just thought she was a nice girl." Brad says, "Kimberly is starting to get how cool it was to meet Jones. When she mentioned it to her co-star and country fan, Jim Belushi, that she had been hanging out with George Jones, he said, 'You, what!?' because he knew how cool that was."

Coast To Coast News

Brad Paisley says one of the reasons he and his girlfriend, actress Kimberly Williams, get along so well is because they are from different worlds. Brad's enjoying the opportunity to teach her about country music. "She didn't know who I was and never listened to my music," he explains. "She didn't even know who George Jones was!"
