Subject: This is why I skipped out on James Brown 
When I first saw the line up for B'roo 2003, I thought to myself that there is no way in hell that I'm going to miss the Godfather of Soul. But then I looked at the schedule and noticed that the SuperJam was taking place at the same time. This brought yet another tough decision (the same as "Do I see Keller, Bela, Sonic Youth or Ben Harper?" and "Garage a Trois or Allmans?") that ultimately was not made until after Galactic played their Sunday afternoon set. 

I walked up to "This Tent" with my roommate Tim about a song and a half into the set (after Galactic we had to stop back at the campsite to fill up on "positive vibes", but our campsite was about a mile away in the "Alabama Soup Bowl"). I looked at the stage set up and thought, "Cool, there's Luther from the All Stars.....AND Stanton Moore......AND Mike Gordan.....AND.....who's that behind the piano? Must be Greg Allman" (I just saw an older gentelman behind a piano and my first thought was Allman since he was already there). But then I inched up on the tips of my toes and saw....The Hat. The unmistakable Dr. John hat. It's a good thing my roommate was there because he was able to catch my falling lower jaw before it smacked against the ground. This was the surprise of the weekend for me. I never thought I'd be able to see Dr. John live, let alone with some of my favorite muscians of today. 

At the beginning of the set, it almost sounds as if there is something wrong with Dr. Johns microphone because the vocals seem distant. But fear not, true believers, the rest of the recording is flawless. I'm extremely happy that this turned out so well and that it is here for public comsumption. Enjoy everyone.
