Peer-to-Peer on the Internet

What is Peer-to-Peer and how is it being used?

You have all heard of internet services such as Napster and maybe even Gnutella, which allow users to exchange files and music. Well these uses of the internet do not rely upon the familiar Client-Server model that we have been discussing to date for all of the internet applications and Application Layer protocols. Instead, these services implement a totally different model called Peer-to-Peer networking, even though they still run on top of the familiar TCP/IP protocol stack we have all come to know and love. The 3 articles listed below give a really good overview of this technology, its implementations, implications and future.
