CIS 625 Class Lecture 5
Composing
Good HTML and why
Here are 2 articles which are
excellent reading which should really complement my lecture. Now that you should
be more familiar with using HTML to make web pages these lectures should be
appropriate. The lectures for you to read are:
Composing Good HTML: http://www.ology.org/tilt/cgh/index.html and read the 4 pages that compose this essay.
N.b. Its a little out of date since it was written when HTML 3.0 came out but it still has some great infromation and is very relevant.
A Slacker's Guide to XHTML: http://slackerhtml.tripod.com/xhtml/.
s an excellent article which tells you (and I agree with him) that XHTML is
the newest implementation after HTML 4.0 which will become the standard for
making web pages. Reading this article will really reinforce the points I
brought out in my lecture about using good HTML and keeping good markup
habits. Its very well written.
Yale
Style Manual
This is a very valuable
reference you will be reading a lot from before the semester is out. Right now
please Read the handful of chapters on Page Design. You will learn a lot about
how to apply all that HTML that you have learned.

The writing style is a little dry (OK its very dry) but stick with it there is
some terrific information in here. Some of the Design issues discussed in here
will be part of one of our next discussion forums.
