M17 is located in the Saggittarius constellation towards the center of our Galaxy. The estimated distance is about 4000 light years. The name Omega or Swan comes formt eh peculiar shape close to the bottom of the nebula which looks like a swan neck (not very visible in this picture though)
M17 is an easy object to visually look at; it is very bright and easy to track.
As far as we know, no particular cluster of young stars is located close or inside the nebula in the same way we have in the Orion or in the Lagoon Nebula.
