Director's Note
This play takes place within two different scenes. One is the outside of the house, which is a removable facade that splits jaggedly down the center. There is a large bay window with curtains on the inside to stage right. There is a step and a door stage left. There are brass numbers (1038) in cursive on the side of the house. There is an outside light that is on or off or colored in different scenes, and the siding on the house is a light yellow color.
The other scene that will be used is the inside of the house directly behind the facade. There is a rocking chair near where the bay window would be. Moving from stage left to stage right: There is a chair against the wall, a stereo in the corner, a sofa (which matches the chair) against the rear wall, a stair case that leads to an upstairs (which is not seen), on the right wall there is a pair of sliding wooden doors which lock that lead to the kitchen (which is not seen), and in the center of the room there is a solid wood coffee table. The furniture should be away from the back wall.
One very important prop is a backdrop canvas. This is black and red with various phrases painted on it in dripping white. This appears in scenes 6 to 8. It has an opening as the walls do.
Both the exterior rear wall and the interior rear wall split jaggedly down the center to allow the MASTER to enter the stage. He must always face directly forward while descending onto the stage. He doesn't need fog when entering the scene, although it could help. If he has theme music, make it "Closer to God." Also, a crucial sound effect of a gate slamming shut and another gate creaking open will be needed.
Directions are indicated by {brackets}.
In scenes 7 and 8 allow the actors to explore different tones of voice while mocking MARC. It must be insane, but yet every tone they speak in is their true emotion at that moment.
A quick note about costumes: the "electrical wire" dress should be as follows: (From the bottom up) Red wire casings curve up the body, about halfway they separate like flames, about two thirds of the way the wires are stripped and then they come to points, the remainder of the outfit is a shiny black material (satin or something). The "headgear" should be a microphone headset equipped with various vocal distortions.
Enough prompting.
