WAVE 3

3.1 - STRONTIUM (BY: Emily XYZ)

Strontium: It sits in your bones,
it sits in my bones
and it will still be there
long after we are gone,
Strontium
I wonder whose idea it was
Was it the government?
Was it the Christian Scientists?
Sometimes I wonder about them,
Strontium
Don't worry on getting drafted,
Don't worry on world war three
Everything that you're afraid of
Is inside of you already.

3.2 - DELIRIUM (DREAM'S SISTER)

amorphous vivid thoughts raced through my head last night
while i sat in a chair
AND THE CHAIR WAS SCREAMING
and sharp angles of color caught my eye
AND PIERCED MY BRAIN
AND LEFT A RING IN MY NOSE
LIKE THE ALTERNAPOP MEDICINE MEN WEAR
and there were snapdragons and tigerlilies and pocketbook plants
AND THEY MELTED MY MIND AND MY FACE OFF
and i tried to scream like the chair was
BUT I COULDN'T CAUSE I'M NOT A CHAIR
but i thought i was and the time went by so slowly
AND COLORS SQUEEZED MY MIND LIKE A PASSION FRUIT
and i smelled like mangoes again
BUT I DIDN'T IT WAS MORE LIKE OLD SWEAT AND HOT SEX
but nothing like either of them at all
AND THEN I MELTED AWAY
but it wasn't like melting
IT WAS LIKE SHRINKY DOOS
but nothing like that at all
AND I THOUGHT I WAS MILK
but the fish told me i wasn't
and it looked at me and smiled
and i smiled back
THEN IT TURNED INTO A CATERPILLAR
THAT TURNED INTO A BUTTERFLY
THAT TURNED INTO DUST
AND I SCREAMED
but it wasn't like the chair

3.3 - ELIOT'S SHADOW

This is the center of all things
In between birth and death
			light and dark
			past and future
			fact and faith
			hope and despair
			ignorance and knowledge
			truth and lies
	This is the shadow land
	the place where everything changes
	Janus' realm
	and all points of possibility
	radiate out from the core
	in between symbolism and realism
				implosion and explosion
				destruction and resurrection
				motion and stagnation
				body and soul
				life and afterlife
				Man and God
Here I stand and feel the power
		of Brahma's collection and destruction
Here I stand and feel the power
of the choice between two worlds
Here I stand and feel the power
of granting salvation and the will to live
		Here-
		in between aristocrat and peasant
					educated and illiterate
					isolated and integrated
					harmony and discordance
					war and peace
					east and west
					One and All
This is the culmination of all things
This is the point that holds infinity inside a singularity
This is the center wherein all things are one thing and one thing is all

3.4 - Taken from DISTESS (BY: Greg Egan)

This pattern of information, this state of being conscious and possessing these perceptions, wraps itself in ever growing layers of corollaries: Neurons to encode the information, blood to nourish the neurons, and a heart to pump the blood, intestines to enrich it, a mouth to supply the intestines, food to pass through it, fields of crops, earth, sunlight, a trillion stars.

Neurons, heart, intestines, cells of proteins and ions and water wrapped in lipid membranes, tissues differentiated in development, genes switched on by intersecting marker hormone gradients, a million interlocking molecular shapes, tetravalent carbon, monovalent hydrogen, electrons shared in bonds between nuclei of protons, neutrons to balance electrostatic repulsion, quarks spinning in both to partner the leptons in a hierarchy of field excitations, a ten-dimensional manifold to support them...defining a broken symmetry on the space of all topologies.

Neurons, heart, intestines, Morphogenesis converging back to a single cell, a fertilized egg in another body. Diploid chromosomes requiring a separate donor. Ancestry iterates. Mutations split species from earlier lineages, Unicellular life, self- replicating fragments, nucleotides, sugars, amino acids, carbon-dioxide, water, nitrogen. A condensing protostellar cloud--rich in heavy elements synthesized in other stars, flung throughout a gravitationally unstable cosmos which begins and ends in singularities.

3.5 - LACRYMOSA

Lacrimosa dies illa
Qua resurget ex favilla
Judicandus homo reus.
Huic ergo parce Deus.
Pie Jesu Domine,
Dona eis requiem
Pie Jesu Domine,
Dona eis requiem
Pie Jesu Domine,
Dona eis requiem
