May 25, 2002: Cataloging decisions

Procedures:
When a book is fully cataloged write the class number on the verso of the title page.

AACR2:
Create an alternative title, field 246, for titles with punctuation in them.

Example: 245 �a Mary's Baby
246 �a Marys baby

ISBD punctuation belongs at the end of the previous marc field:
Example: 245 �a The vanishings / �b Jerry B. Jenkins, Tim LaHaye.

Classification:
Fiction will be classed in 813 with a cutter for the first three letters of the author's last name.
Example: Second Chance / Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye.
090 �a 813 jen

Dewey number length will stop at 6 digits + a cutter for the first three letters of author's last name.

When classifying a book with title main entry that begins with numbers use Dewey up to six Digits + first three letters of the first word in the title.
Example: 365 Meditations for mothers of young children
090: �a 242.2 med

Subject Headings:
Because this is a children's catalog do not use the subdivision Juvenile literature.
