Nylon was not as easy to use when it first came out of the factory. The Frederick Hosiery Manufacturer had many difficulties, for example the nylon did not come of the machine properly and after being dyed it didn't turn the correct color and it was wrinkled. However, the Van Raalte mill in boonton, NJ worked on it and it was soon discovered that with steam, thw wrinkles could be taken out afterwards.
After all the niches were taken out, nylon skyrocketed. A unit was made to produce 250 pounds of nylon yarn a day.
The plant for nylon was authorized but another problem arouse; the coating on the nylon was removed with boiling water. Du Pont had to find a film that could not be removed with warm water or discolor the yarn and that would go on easily. It took many months to finally come up with a solution. A new four component of nylon was made. |

The nylon plant in Seaford began in January 1940 but could nto keep up with the demand for nylon. When World War Two was over, women demanded nylon and would even fight over it. The great demand went on for two straight years. |
