What are you using on your nails?
So Girls do you ever wonder what is in your nail polish or how long it has been around? Well I haven't and then one day my wonderful Chemistry teacher asked me to research on something doing with Chemistry in my every day life. I have to say I am addicted to getting my nails done. So this was a little scary. What am I doing to my nails??
Monomers combine together to form three dimensional figures that are polymers (entwhined chains of monomers), they are flexible and strong. The chemicals in nail polish are only harmful if not properly used. Here are some things you should keep in mind when painting your nails or when using Acrylic nails.
~Proper storage and fire pervention
~Look into ways of keeping the hazerdous chemicals out of your body (i.e. Face mask)
~Know the short and long term effects of exposure.
~First aid Techniques
~Safe handling techniques.

The Human body is rugged and can handle alot but unproper exposure over and over again can harn the body.
---Above is a picture of a polymer.---
Once the monomers is gone the reaction stops and the Polymer is formed and the process is over.

There are many chemicals used in nail polish and acrylic nails. Here are just some of the (dangerous) chemicals.
~Adhesive- A chemical that causes surfaces to stick
~Allergen- Capable of producing an exaggerated or adverse reaction. i.e. Sneeze, rash, irritation
~Acrylic- Polymer coating exact the same mixed ratio of monomer and polymer. They contain Ethylmethacrylate (EMA) which causes flexiblility. The Acrylic powders contains 70% Ema and 30% Methyl Methacrylate.
~Bacteria- single celled organisms that are capable of causinf disease.
~Primer- 100% pure Methacrylic acid that acts like double sided tape.
~Sensitve- Chemical that causes a substantial portion of exposed people and animals to develop allergic reactions.
---Acrylic Nails; Beautiful when you don't think about what is in them---
So, now when we sit down at the nail salon for our relaxing manicure/pedicure we have a little insight on what they are putting on our nails.
