Aramids - A family of Nylon all it's own
There are two types of aramids; Nomex and Kevlar.
Kevlar
Nomex
Kevlar are made to make bullet proof vests and ounsture resistant bicycle tires. At first they couldn't find anything to use Kevlar  because it is not dissolable but Stephanie Kwalek came up with the way to use it. It is a crystalline polymer
Kevlar is a polymide, all amide groups are separated by para phenylene groups. Amids are attached to phenyl rings opposite eachother.
Nomex is a meta phenylene group. Amide groups are attached to phenyl ring. It is a meta linkage. Nomex is used to help monster trucks from releasing to much fire which results in saving peoples lives.
Blends of both aramids are used to make fire proof clothing.
