"My Father the Hero"

Many of you that knew my father knew that he was a good man,
father, husband, brother and friend, but you may not have known
some of the deepest parts of him as I did.

He was always known to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed
it, but he never asked for anything in return, that's the kind of man he
was. His joy came in the giving, in knowing that he had helped another
human being, no matter the inconvenience to himself.

Although he loved his family, brothers, sisters, parents and friends
without limits, he never really expressed it much verbally, and always
acted like he was made of steel, but he was a very sensitive and
caring man who was generous to no end.

Very few ever saw his true heart, or knew that behind his humor, and
his temper, was a teddy bear, with a very tender nature. Often, he
would refuse to let me hug him. He would laugh and act like that was
too mushy for him, but even though it went unspoken, he knew that I
knew, that he secretly loved it.

Not many knew that side of him, and the rare few who did, could call
him not only a friend, but also a brother, at least in every way that
mattered.

He was not only my father... he was my hero. The purity of his heart in
his actions towards helping others and his community, was beyond
reproach. The devotion, the countless lives he saved over his years of
service, the joy he could bring to anyone he was around, in laughter, in
lending a helping hand with no task too big or small and in his all
around nature of being a giver.

All these things made him a hero, to not only me, but to so many
others.

I said that he was not much on showing his love out-rightly, but know,
that if you ever had the privilege of having him help you, you WERE
loved, because that's how he showed his love to others.
The Eulogy I had the minister read at my father's funeral.
