| Thank you for voting. Results of Play the Library Pick were given to the Commission prior to the June 21 meeting. The Commission reviewed the options and listened to the public input and discussed the top public interest sites. The Oasis site does not have water or sewer and the Commission had reservations as to the cost of putting it in. At the Present site the concern is risk of flood damage and cost of flood insurance. The downtown campus area has the advantage of ability to partner with other events on the site and would serve as a magnet to draw the public into the downtown area and help to drive the economic engine of the downtown corridor. The downtown campus was recommended by a reputable library consultant. The Commission voted to recommend a site in the downtown campus. However, the Commission once again stated that an area other than the architect's proposal at the downtown central library footprint may work better. A location along the edge (along Faine Street or possibly behind the chamber although that side would take parking spaces now used for the gym) ) or at the corner of Main and Faine Streets or similar is suggested. The Commission reviewed the school site and did not have interest there. The first street area is not for sale by the property owners and the Commission did not show interest in the site. It was placed on the survey when a few phone calls came in requesting the site. The Cliff's site did not even receive mention at the last meeting and with low public response apparently does not have much interest for a library site. The Commission voted to advise Council that the library should house only library related services. The Commission requested a joint worksession with Town Council to give reasons for their decisions, further discussion of the issues, feedback, and to work with Council in the final selection of the site. It is not known what the final outcome will be after further discussion and meeting with the Town Council. Contact the library or town hall for time and date of the meeting if you want to attend. The public is always welcome. 567-3414 library. Worksession date Wednesday, August 8th | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
