What about people who were baptized as JWs before the Society banned blood transfusion?
With due respect for your point that becoming a Jehovah's Witnesses is a decision of choice, at least in the case of adults, what becomes a problem is when people come to realize that they no longer agree with the doctrine and want to leave Jehovah's Witnesses. Now the "choice" about being a JW becomes more complicated. What if one chooses to get baptized based on present "truth," and then "new light" comes along changing what they formerly believed when they got baptized, and now they disagree with the "new light." Its fine to say one has the choice to become a Witness. If Jehovah's Witnesses allowed people to leave the religion without severing family ties, I would have no problem with your argument for people who choose to be JWs. But they don't.
