100 Worshipers Robbed During Easter Services

By REUTERS
ETAIRIE, La. -- A masked gunman robbed 100 worshipers in a Jehovah's Witnesses church on Easter Sunday in this New Orleans suburb, taking $1,200 and several driver's licenses, the authorities said Monday.

Nobody was injured and the police have few clues to the robber's identity, Col. John Fortunato of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's office said.

"He wore a ski mask," Colonel Fortunato said. "The only clue we have is that he had some sort of tattoo or scar above his right cheek."

One worshiper, Vicky Wagner, 48, said the robber entered the New Orleans Kingdom Hall 15 minutes after the service began, then held a gun to one member's head and told everyone to lie on the floor and hand over money and driver's licenses.
