Ah, spring! the time when old farmer's thoughts turn to world suppys and demand, production costs and future selling price. However, it don't look like any farm product has a bright future and besides it snowed a pile here in the flatlands of the Canadian prairie. So a chance to look in on H20.
I saw a topic on here awhile ago which I didn't have time to respond to, but was interested in - the preferred name of the supreme being. He is called everything from Allah to Yahweh (Zeus?) and I think I have a valid theory here. I believe He would put more stock in the respect the name is spoken with than the name itself. I sure can't prove that.
I'm of the opinion He would prefer the name of Heavenly Father or equivelent. It is mentioned a fair bit in the new testiment. I also see He introduced Himself to Abraham and sons as God Almighty in the OT. (Exodus 6:3 KJV) If I look at Darby's translation I see He told Moses He was Jehovah in the verse before that. This indicates to me He didn't seem to have a clear cut preference. Abraham and his family were OT heavyweights and lived on the planet for how many hundred years, led nations and on and on yet never knew God by the name Jehovah. Looks to me it was a little less prevelent than certain folks in Brooklyn would have us believe. It is talked about in Genesis 17:1 as well.
I have never used the name Jehovah, never will and am confident He won't care. Should the name appear in the NT? If it should I suspect that John, Paul, Luke and the boys would have put it there not some Frank-come-lately bible translator.( Darby used the name 6712 times, but none in the NT.)
This topic interested me because the WT torques me off in one of the mags called 'What does God Reqire' It comes across to me as calling me second class for not using a certain name for God.
I can't help but feel the WTS does and says a lot of things to iritate those of other religions- well, it is working.
There I got that off my chest. If it snows some more I'll have a go at paradise earth, too.
I've got time 'til she melts to read where I'm right or left.
Good times to all,
Shelby
