Well, I think that Christianity was influenced by other schools of thought, and the reference to Justin is interesting if not mildly relevant. Jewish sources that I've encountered maintain that 1st century Jews probably would have had a difficult time accepting a "son of God" similar to to what the pagans around them believed, that a god or gods spawn divine progeny. Where in the OT is the Messiah character portrayed as a preexistent divine spirit being having existed before his human life (Micah 5:2 the only possibility, and even that is subjective)?
My Hindu friend is in
town from India. When I get a chance I'll broach the subject with him, as he's spoken of the consistencies between Krishna and Christ before, but we never got into serious detail (other than his assertion that while the Christian theory
has worth, his religious stories are the truth).
