Hi Gary,

I never said that 14 AD as the date of Tiberius SOLE reign is questionable. You have missed my point. I stated that 29 AD as the date of Jesus' baptism is an uncertain date, because Luke may have counted from the beginning of Tiberius co-rule with Augustus in 11/12 AD. In the provinces, the Greek word "hegemonia" was used for Tiberius' actual rule, dating from the beginning of his co-rulership, and Luke uses the same word, instead of "basileia", which was used of his sole rule. This use of the two words was demonstrated by A.W. Zumpf, Theodor Zahn, and others in the 19th century, and it has been demonstrated again, with new evidence added, in our century by August Strobel and others. The 29 AD date, therefore, is highly questionable.

Carl
