Recently, Ralph Brentner, of Skokie, Illinois, was awakened in the dead of night, horrified to discover the room full of smoke, and the roar of flames in his apartment building.

Almost frozen in a state of panic, Ralph then heard something: The urgent barking of a dog down the hallway! Deciding that the dog might be trying to lead him to safety, Ralph got low to the ground on his hands and knees, and started out toward the continuous barking.

Down along the dark, smokey corridor he crawled, past the flames, the heat, the blistering paint, ever closer to the sounds of the barking canine. And then, at last, he came to a point where the dog seemed just in front of him...and plunged twenty stories, to his death, down the open elevator shaft.

Seems it wasn't his dog.....
