On Friday April 2, 1999 our ISP Cyberpass.net and its parent Infonex Information Services, Inc. will upgrade from Perl 5.004 to Perl 5.005. Due to significant changes in the upgrade, H2O administrators have no idea how this upgrade will impact this outpost's Perl engine. Everything relating to H2O is dependent on Perl.

Please email H2O if you experience problems on Friday.

Bookmark this emergency H2O "escape pod" link that has been at the top of the forum screen for several months as an inconspicuous Sign Our Guestbook link:

This site was designed for the purpose of such a failure. Proceed there if H2O experiences failure due to the Perl upgrade, which I seriously doubt will occur. Perl drives most of the internet sites, and our scripts are standard Perl code. Failure of H2O's scripts would surely would mean failure would occur across the net. I'm sure whomever upgraded Perl made certain the "upgrade path" would occur efficiently.

Anyone familiar with the new upgrade is requested to post a list of changes and rough estimate of probability these changes could impact H2O's Perl scripts. Thanks.

Rick
