Rick,
This really is getting ridiculous. I have to start off spending my limited time and I'm sure that I'm not the only one doing this by going through the deleted posts, in order to make some threads make sense. When I do take the time to do this I notice that the majority of deleted posts are from M14. Hence my suggestion is that you apply a temporary suspension to their moderator privileges and see what happens here on the board. Im suggesting this stronger measure for this individual since they are the most active of all moderators in deleting posts, many of which I find no objection to when I take the time to sift through the deleted files.
I also then have to scroll through what has become in past weeks a consistent theme to this forum discussions on moddies and their abuses or purported abuses of power by wrongfully deleting posts by having targeted certain individuals here on the board. Just to find topics that actually deal with the WBTS and JWs, Reform and the Bible.
I have to say my piece. I haven't been deleted to the best of my knowledge and I believe this may lend me a measure of credence when I say the moderator "M14" has to be dealt with by you or one of the other administrators. Your guidelines for all moderators are a start in the right direction but it seems to lack reciprocity in how this board is maintained and monitored. This is a matter that also needs to be further addressed as others have also stated to you. Ill be the first to admit that I have not followed the majority of threads involving this issue. The reasons are as follows:
1. Time constraints on my end. I have a business to run and a life to live beyond
my time at this terminal.
2. Lack of interest in a topic.
3. Dont want to contribute to the problem as I see it of an endlessly spiraling course. That rapidly begins to appear non-constructive.
So Rick my first suggestion to you is to add a level of reciprocity to the process. If moderators can warn and delete posters for violating FPP rules make it possible that we as posters can warn moderators and even censor them and remove their power to delete posts. We already see regulars here on the board-crying foul in regard to certain moderators a warning of sorts to you and the other administrators of this sight about a potential abuse of power by some.
So what can you do? How about instituting a tiered structure to handling possible moderator abuse? If a specific moderator is acting in a capricious manner and is being warned by posters that they see his or her actions as such, that they may have their moderator privileges downgraded one level. This will allow them (the moderator) to flag a post as a potential violation and tag it with a warning message and their reason why they flagged it just as they are now required to do under your revised arrangement. Yet the post and thread that follows remains. If after a review of their past deletions and current flagging of posts it is seen that there is no abuse of power. That they are in line with a reasonable interpretation of the FPP as considered by the administrators and owners of this sight then allow them to have full privileges restored. If they are out of line with the intent of the FPP as you have written it, then leave their privileges for deleting posts remain suspended.
It may be that you have addressed these matters and I have just missed them. If so I know you or someone here will direct me to their location in order to read them.
Well these are just a few of my thoughts on the matter and a suggestion on how to deal with it.
Respectfully Yours,
Felix A.
