I think people take personifications of God too
literally. When people start getting ideas that
God exists "somewhere" and that he has an
invisible "body" they lend themselves to silly
ideas about him.
I think
manifestations of God occur all the time
when someone feels love, or when someone performs
an act of kindness, or when people stand up for
their rights in non-violent ways ( like Ghandi),
and other items. Its when people
start thinking
that he's a bearded old man in a far off place in
the sky that a lot of foolishness gets started.
