I became a Jehovah's Witness because I was looking for a place to hide from a dangerous, unfriendly world which I felt powerless to improve. For about ten years, it worked.
If I had it to do over again, I would have left ten years sooner than I did.
I'd like to say that I would never have become a Witness at all, but I did not have sufficient courage back then. I would not have joined a conservative Protestant church, because I had no respect for the hellfire doctrine. And I knew nothing about liberal churches.
