My generous grandfather, who was all heart, made some prophecies that came true. The one I remember best is about apple trees:
For some time, my grandparents rented a house in a "holler" in Southeastern Kentucky. The landlord was the
inverse of my grandfather -- stingy, tight-fisted, miserly. There were apple trees on his property, and he would chase away any child who climbed a tree or reached for an apple -- not entirely unreasonable. My grandfather predicted that
all of the apple trees would die. Believe it or not, they did, and I guarantee that it was not because of any malice on my grandfather's part -- perhaps some malice on the part of the chased-away kids.
