This is very much the case in my family too Jan. Happy is not the word that comes to mind when I think of them. However I'm wondering if the new wave of JWs are better off emotionally than the ones from my era? Most of my family are still suffering economically from the 1975 fiasco and I believe lack of financial sufficiency puts a great deal of stress on families, no matter what religion they belong to. Anotehr factor that comes into play is the over exaggerated view of the male headship within the jw belief system. I think my sister would be a lot happier if she was able to use her ample intelligence to help resolve some of their family problems.
I think it's great if the new JW is living independent of all the nagging from the F & DS, but if people took everything they read in the WT to heart they'd have to be miserable, because the *encouragement* found there is not
practical for families in the century.
