Fred,
This one is a classic. It illustrates how humans set mental bounderies for themselves based upon the sight boundaries of the challenge they are viewing. This puzzle proves that many people see the bounderies of the solution within the matrix, which, of course, the solution is not to be found within those bounderies. Once one breaks the self-imposed visual boundaries, one can solve the puzzle.
BTW, I can solve the puzzle using only ONE straight line!. (You didn'tsay how WIDE the pen had to be, now did you?)
BTW, I am a great fan of lateral thinking puzzles and riddles. If you are interested in hearing some of them, please feel free to e-mail me @deletedPostersRUs. Seriously, if you are interested in lateral thinking puzzles, give me an e-mail ring. I know a bunch of 'em and they will make you think.
