My comment
"Because they are told to and (as the witnesses.net posters in the
apostasy thread so blatantly pointed out) they believe that those
telling them to spread this are "specially-appointed" by the Lord, or
his
"slave," or whatever, and that if they DON'T spread all this, they
will have no salvation."
....one of the postings on the "apostasy" thread talked about NOMINAL Christians and their relationship with Jesus (by nominal, they meant
from the context nonJWs) without the slave,
and started going on about how GOD WILL JUDGE US UPON HOW WE TREATED the SLAVE, meaning of course you-know-who.
And how do these members of the rank-and-file KNOW that you-know-who is the
"Slave" or "servant" mentioned by Jesus? Simple: you-know-who SAYS
he (they) is (are) the Slave. THAT'S IT.
The discussion wasn't specifically about the early church, but of course Watchtowerism is INHERENTLY about claims about the faith of the early church, so this topic is inescapable.
But it was typical "slave" talk.
And by "spread all this" I mean spread WHATEVER this self-anointed "slave" tells them to spread, a lot of which is just plain
libel.
