You reminded me of when we took our old grandfather clock to be repaired. The clockworks had somehow become partially jammed, and the pendulum swung only halfway, to the left, with a "tick" sound. It wouldn't compensate on the right side with the corresponding "tock," and as a result the clock was not keeping correct time. So we took it to the only clock shop in town, which was tucked away down a back street in a seedy little district. We rang a buzzer at the counter, and an ancient, wrinkled old German fellow hobbled out of the back room.
So we explained to him what the problem was with the clock only ticking, not tocking. And this old guy opened the glass on the front of the clock, whipped out a flashlight from his back pocket, and shone it directly in the face of the clock. "Ve haf vays to make you tock," he intoned threateningly.
Thoroughly unapologetic COMF
