There was wide speculation that the course of rock changed forever when Hendrix released that album, and I agree. Others, like Jefferson Airplane and the 13th Floor Elevators, were fumbling around with the controls a little bit, but it was Hendrix who sat down in the pilot's seat and showed us all that the contraption was not an airplane at all, but rather a vessel for interstellar travel.
