Hi Steve,

I wonder if you studied with the JWs when you were a child or a grown man who was able to make choices based of experience and maturity. I was indoctrinated as a child and therefore based my decision to get baptised a JW on a one dimensional view of the world as given me by the JWs. OK - but as happens, I grew up, and some time after 25 yrs of age I started to view things much like you do, and I chose to leave being a JW in favour of a more tolerant view of life. I've not been allowed to be part of my family for 19 yrs now and don't know my seven neices and nephews. If circumstances had been slightly different for you, you may have ended up baptised, and being shunned by your sister for the rest of your life had you later chosen to leave. I'm not aware of many athiests who would treat their fellow man in this way.

With regards JH - I'm sure he'll reply to you - however I believe you have totally over reacted. Jan simply said he preferred to watch paint dry than listen to another trinity debate - he offered no opinion or review of the book. My husband is an academic and he often chooses to read or not read literature based on his knowledge of the person's previous work. This is very normal behaviour amongst academics.
