There are lots of things that the simpletons you refer to overlooked. No, you are not dumb. You simply trusted what you saw. You are looking at these things differently now and obviously coming away with a different perspective. Just that you have the ability to do this demonstrates you have are intelligent.
Do not be to hard of a judge on yourself. Instead, rejoice that you have the ability to make such discoveries. Many are not so fortunate.
