I used to read those when I was a born-again.
Now that I am more mature, I agree with your assesssment. He, like the fundie groups I was part of, uses hell to scare people into serving God. The good cop/bad cop act; serve God and get the reward, or be tortured forever.
Every day I am more and more glad that I am an atheist...those fear tactics don't work on me anymore.
