Letting go of the security blanket was a minor difficulty - you know that you want to step out into the big brave world, but you're reluctant because you've been closetted so long in an artificial world. Taking the first step to walk away
took a bit of time. We knew it wasn't the truth, but stayed a little longer until circumstances lent themselves to our leaving. (our second child was born and he screamed all the time -it was a clear message to give up meetings). It felt
like a vacuum at first. We had nothing to fall back on. No crutch - no belief in life after death etc. But the freedom was exquisite - it felt like life had opened up enormously. Then there was the problem of facing our reduced
circumstances because of the wasted years - but none of these things were very difficult. Quite a unique experience and one I cherish in a way. I imagine it's like a blind person having an operation to regain his sight - he's a bit
nervous about taking the bandages off, but when he does he will never forget his first few weeks of sight. Maybe that's too dramatic, but I feel it was along those lines for me.
