Medical's view of Blood?

For some reason the medical issues of blood were always the basis for my belief in refusing them.

I understand many here do not consider the verse in acts as an interdiction for them and that's fine with me. It is possible that it was misinterpreted.

However, in recent years we've seen the medical community assertain that blood is unique to the individual. Someone has posted recently that the body goes into shock after receiving a transfusion, just like it does when it's transplanted with a foreign organ. So there is seriousness involved.

Is anyone out there aware of data released by the medicals as to the short or long term effects of transfusions (organ transplant could be included)? Maybe change in personality, developping diseases uncommon to their familly history. What are the percentages of people receiving a transfusion who later develop a serious disease compared to those of the general population?
